It is all distance learning my friend. Off my own back and through the Net. At least this course is, not all of the Open's courses are.

To be quite honest I don't know. I hav'nt thought that far ahead. I don't work in my area of study currently. I am doing it for me more than anything else. I guess I could go into research for social policy etc that kind of thing.

Ok. The Open University was set up in the 60s by Harold Wilson (socilaist PM). It main thrust was to facilitate the need for a higher education system that could provide quality education in distance learning, and also bring the unattainable university system to the working class. At the time, the University system was split into a two tier system. There were the 'old schools', Oxford, Cambridge etc. There were the new schools 'The Polytechincs' that were more conerned with vocational degree training than purely academic purisuits. Originally the Open was not that well respected. It was like a 'poly'. Since the 80s all higher education have been called Universitys. The old poly system is no longer in existance.

Today the Open is in the Top Ten of the Post Graduate Educational establishments. The thing that is good about the Open is that I set the time I take the course over. The 60 credits I am doing will only take a year, but I am allowed to take up to five years to them. It means I can work still and earn a full time wage. Does that answer your questions?

Oh yeah. Come to my house and stay if you want

"Oh yeah. Come to my house and stay if you want" - Sp00ky.

Only if it isn't an imposition. I can always do a day visit or something. Don't want to ever put you out mate .

And thanks for the info. on Open. Very cool indeed.

"I don't work in my area of study currently. I am doing it for me more than anything else." - Sp00ky.

That's respectable. I'm doing the same. English degree with poly-sci minor. Might do law school but probably not. I just wanted to do what I enjoy and fuck all to anything else. I do hope that you find a career which allows a continuity between what you want and what you need.

I've got to split for work, but I'll be back in here tonight or tomorrow morning. If I don't respond it's not personal .

Cheers.

Its not an imposition. If you can handle a floor for a few days I don't mind. If I had the space I would put you up for six months.

Cheers

heheh you're such a limey

"heheh you're such a limey"

Thx . My cursed breed is happy for the euro recognition. Anything to be associated with substance rather than US style, flash and exterior.

And the floor is a luxory . Thank you. I'll certainly do a night or two with you. When I get the england part of the trip figured out I'll let you know. I should be pretty flexible whence there so it will be easy to schedule around whatever you're up to.

Off to work now.

Cheers!

Sp00ky this is terrific! And although there isn't a direct correlation between my excitedness and...

I'm planning to be "over the pond" for another six months with my girlfriend. Which of the schools will you be at? The one nearest london? If so, I'll visit for real this time. Six months is enough time to see folks, and I've been interested, if you're interested, to meet you and whichever other asylum folks I can.

...

More on topic though. A. What will this 60 additional credits do for your carreer? B. I've heard about the university system in britain and how it is quite exclusive. Is the "open university" a means of combating the apparent polarization of educated from uneducated? Are there many systems like OU over there?

Again, your decision is brilliant.
