Post Relative Addictiveness of various drugs

I thought this was interesting, no wonder I smoke..

To rank today's commonly used drugs by their addictiveness, we asked experts to consider two questions: How easy is it to get hooked on these substances and how hard is it to stop using them? "To rank today's commonly used drugs by their addictiveness, we asked experts to consider two questions: How easy is it to get hooked on these substances and how hard is it to stop using them? Although a person's vulnerability to drug also depends on individual traits -- physiology, psychology, and social and economic pressures -- these rankings reflect only the addictive potential inherent in the drug. The numbers below are relative rankings, based on the experts' scores for each substance:

100 Nicotine

99 Ice, Glass (Methamphetamine smoked)

98 Crack

93 Crystal Meth (Methamphetamine injected)

85 Valium (Diazepam)

83 Quaalude (Methaqualone)

82 Seconal (Secobarbital)

81 Alcohol

80 Heroin

78 Crank (Amphetamine taken nasally)

72 Cocaine

68 Caffeine

57 PCP (Phencyclidine)

21 Marijuana

20 Ecstasy (MDMA)

18 Psilocybin Mushrooms

18 LSD

18 Mescaline

Speakin' of nicotine, a coupla days ago I bought a carton of Swiss imported Marlboro Lights from the Paiutes out in Nevada. Although the box looks the same, the cigarettes have a brown filter.

What I wanna know is how come is it the Swiss rate a brown filter and we don't? Amen.

You are referring to the pre-smoked cigarettes correct?

that's kind of inaccurate, isn't it? by the criteria laid out there, nicotine is the most addictive due entirely to its being legal and so easy to obtain, and not due to any inherent property of the drug itself.
i guess in that context there's a huge problem with amphetemines and crack in (i'm assuming) the US. i could definitely be wrong, nicotine could be the equal of crack in terms of addictiveness on a purely physiological level, but i really doubt it. this study should make smokers feel better, and have a reason to look down on the filthy weak junkies out there.

pff. heroin? i smoke camels, REGULAR.

This is actually true Buddha. Nicotine is the most chemically additctive on the brain. It is a far more powerful and dependent drug than heroin and many others.....*taks long hard drag*

okay, i'll accept that. i was confusing addictiveness with some other related things, like withdrawal symptoms and whatnot. strictly on the basis of addiction, i retract my objection.

Caffeine needs to be higher up that list. I can live without cigs, but deny me my coffee and I'll become medieval.

That list seems accurate to me.

I need to quit smoking again.
I have been smoking (this round) for 9 years having gone 3 years without. I used to some for a year or two then quit for a year.

Is it harder to quit once you've stopped and then started again? I've never tried to quit. I am going on my 16th year as a smoker.

I don't think so. It was easy to quit years ago because I was totally commited to quiting when I did. I was doing it to allow my system to heal a bit, knowing I would start smoking again in a year or so. I know that sounds wierd but I do like smoking.
I qualify the "easy" as it really isn't. I was a royal bitch from day 3 to about day 14 then mellowed out.

When I decide to quit this time, I am going to try hypnotism.

I used Wellbutrin SR in combination with a patch. Didn't miss cigarettes at all. I smoked for 26 years. Try it. BTW, Wellbutrin is much the same as Zyban.
