Question Do you remember where you were when you found out Princess Di was dead?

I bet you do. I had just finished the Minnesota - Idaho trek sans stimulants (1400 miles in 20 hours straight). I got into Idaho and crashed out for a few hours. When I woke up, my dad says something along the lines of "You slept through world-wide news!" My dad is often a fairly humorous chap and I figured he was pulling my leg or was going to announce some molehill thing of import ot him, but then he told me what had happened.

I was never a big fan and was rather surprised to see insane degree of affection the world heaped on that lady, but she was a cool enough chick and died under shitty circumstances (should have been wearing her seatbelt for one thing!).

Anyway, we were talking about this and whether or not people remember what they were doing or where they were at when they found out.

Princess Di is DEAD???

Why was I not informed?

Next thing ya know, they'll be telling me somebody smoked Kennedy. Teddy, that is. They missed his sorry ass somehow.

I was laughing afterwards. That's all I remember.

She's just a dead formerly rich woman to me.

I really find that hard to believe. I can understand lack of interest, but you are just being a buzz kill right now. There is no way that your first reaction was to laugh at it.

I bet you got a rip-roaring guffaw out of the Nepalese royal family assissination?

I laughed.

The Royal Family is a joke. Hence the laughter.

If you aren't wearing a seatbelt, you deserve to die and be laughed at. Or you're asking for it. Either or.

I do....somehow. I woke that morning on the floor of my lounge in a pool of spit. A hot knife was next to me and a mirror with some white powder on it. The TV was moving around the room, and then my flatmate came in and told me Di was dead. I thought it best to have a bong at this point, not out of respect or anything like that, it was just done because it was a waking moment. I went to the door and someone had sent me a letter. I opened it and was delighted to find 10 grams of Hash Oil from Holland. Oh the joy. I went back to watch the TV. My TV broke. I rember the day so vividly because of that reason more than Di. It was the day my 22 year old colour tv broke. It was heart wrenching. I had no TV for a week after that.

*hangs head in respect to the TV*

What was the last thing to come into Di's head after the crash?

The glove box.

BOOM BOOM!

I woke up from a serious hangover with my buddy asleep in my front room floor, I woke him up and told him Di was dead, and then tryed to find a TV channel that wasent running that fucking story.

On a serious note though... the car was a write off.

Talking

I found myself in absolute awe when I saw how many people who had never met her or spoken to her were standing around crying with snotty noses. Who the hell cares?

Goes without saying that "If you drink and drive, and have an accident, you will spill your drink."

Sympathy can be demonstrated by inserting a sun-roof in your forehead and head butting a dashboard repeatedly!!!

I was sitting in the US History class I was failing when the teacher came in and asked if any of us had an opinion on it. Being the intellegent(sp?) class we were, someone probably asked "who?".

I had just turned off the tape of the Tyson fight where he bit the other fella's ear off. We didn't get a chance to watch that the night it aired, but I remember turning it off and Kurt Loder was talking about it on MTV.

At first I thought MTV hoax, but then saw the real news stations talking about it and knew the truth.

I dont remeber what I was doing, but I sure remeber how sad I was for her children. To lose a parent is a youngsters worse nightmare and I wanted to protect the boys... She was a pretty amazing person and I think she deserved the adoration she got..She was a royal of the people and it was refreshing...Her boys are growing into fine men, she was a pretty good egg..

A friend of mine called me from jail and left a message on my machine, in his worst British accent ever, "Lady Diana.. is dead"

I was thinking, what a sick fuck.

Then my mom called.. and moms don't lie.

I was watching MST3K with a chum. I was on a couch, his dad came in, told us she was dead.

It was the episode with the famous lines: "...cab forward face" and "and the plot thinnens!"

The couch was very comfortable.

I remember a couple days after she died my dad came home from the hospital. He was suffering from short term memory loss at the time, so every 10 minutes he'd see some story on the news about her death and gasp, saying "Princess Di is dead?" It got old real fast.

I'd just done a six hour drive up from Newquay...it was about 3am and my mum told me when I walked through the door....actually she may not have been announced as dead then, but when I woke up in the morning, my tv was on and both she and Dodi had died by this point!

Then the circus began...

i don't remember where it was but i remember when i heard i went "oh... HA!", so easy to laugh at other's misfortunes. The only reason people cared so much was because she was famous. I don't think they realised that she's just another person no better than the rest of us. Maybe when rich or famous people die it makes us realise our own mortality?

I'm not sure where I was when she died, but I know where I was when I first heard the joke about the last thing that went through her mind...sitting in front of my computer.

By the way, for the one of you who haven't heard that joke, the answer is "the windshield"
