java irc client with win98se internet connection sharing

Sometimes the win98se proxy client computer connects multiple times with the java client.
One connection attempt resulsts in 3 or 4 connections. Does anybody have any ideea why?

i know someone had a similar problem in the WIT thread, im not sure what the problem is but i do know the JPilot applet is buggy. All i can personally suggest is getting mirc.

Are you using MIE as your browser? I've tried both netscape and MIE on Win98 with the java client and found that Netscape was much more stable. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, but it's becoming clear, generally, that Netscape handles Java better than MIE these days.

Or, as Dingle says, you can do the obvious and get mirc. It's the piece of software that most of us use to chat here.
