laptop purchasing

A friend, who I'm trying to get hooked on this place, is looking to buy a lap top. Here are the quals:

-under $2500
-can reliably operate power point, word processing, and internet functions
-one of those "liquid screens" (not sure what he's talking about here)
-something lightweight: he has a lot of places to trot to on campus, and would also like to have it for travel and for conferences

Does anyone know of good brands for him to go for? I suggested he try the Computer Shopper catalogue (more selection) when he was adamant about just going to best buy.

well, i'll go you one better and say that i know that all laptops have liquid crystal screens. i can't say much except [jericho] never, EEEEEEEEVVVERRR [/jericho] buy a notebook made by the sharp corporation. they don't have any idea how to do it. i bought one from them, and it was all fucked up. i wish i had done something about it too, instead of throwing it on the floor and stepping on it. and i'm poor as hell, so i really don't have the money to be stepping on notebook computers that i saved up money on for months. oh well, i'm an american! i can waste as much as i please! MUAHAHAHAHAH!
