Question Windows Messaging

I just had to reformat my computer and for the life of me I can't remember how to get rid of that annoying little "Inbox" icon on the desktop. Any ideas besides uninstall and deleting windows messaging? It didn't work. Also, how about the Network Neighborhood and the Outlook Express icons? I've never been able to get them off the desktop.

Hallo.
Did you try right-clicking on the Inbox icon and deleting? You can delete the Inbox and the Outlook Express icons.

But, leave the Network Neighborhood as is.

Right clicking was the first thing I tried but delete doesn't show up. Thanks anyway.

Fear not. You'll need to launch Windows Explorer.

Start > Programs > Windows Explorer

When you're there, find Desktop on the left hand side and click on it. You will see, displayed on the right, the icons on your desktop.

Feel free to select and delete the inbox and outlook icons. Leave the Network Neighborhood where it is. Win9x hates you screwing around with that and the 'My Briefcase'.

you can safely remove the network neighboorhood icon on a win9x machine if it is a stand alone. Should you attempt to use direct-cable-connection - the host wont be able to see any of the files on the serving machine and visa versa... If you are on a network - dont even think about it.

it wont affect your network connectivity.
The only icon you cannot remove on 95 & 98 is My Computer - the rest can be removed easily using a tweak program like x-setup

If you are running windows 98 - you can get rid of all your icons on the desktop in one foul swoop by turning the active desktop on and choosing "Hide all icons when my desktop is viewed as a web page" from the Display control panel

Pangloss: Thanks for the advice. I can't believe that I forgot about Windows Explorer.
Animal: That's a cool program! Thanks for the link!
