Ive done this befor with a CD-rom drive. If your lucky your power unit will have a device very like a circute breaker in it, i know mine dose - if you switch your pc off at the wall then wait for about 3 hours it should reset itself and work again. Its very unlikly that youll have fryed your motherboard, so if this dosent work you can do 2 things replace your power unit $30ish, youll want a 230watt or 250watt if you have a lot of drives and cards, or you could take your power unit along to a tv repair shop and they should be able to replace the the fuse and any other blown components, try and find someone who knows there stuff and it should cost you about $10 if that, I wouldnt recommend replacing the fuse with a paper clip *BOOM*.
Oh and if your PU is an old one Tx style remember black goes next to black on the mobo.

You may have blown out the BIOS settings when you let the "magic smoke" out of it earlier.
Make sure that your boot order is set properly, and your hard disk is configured properly.

You did not mention formatting the drive in your other posts.

If the drive is blank, yes it needs a system disk. Grab you op system and start reloading.

if their drive is not still under worenty and putting another drive in alowes the box to start you might give this a try (this is going to sound crazy but some times it works) 1. lay down a towl or sumthing soft on a table 2. holding the drive level give it a firm but not to hard whack on towle covered table. some times the heads on the platers will devilop a static charge that will cause them to stick and this will un stick it BUT do not slam the drive to hard or all hope will be lost some times it'll
work sometimes not but what the hell you haven't lost any thing if ya don't try

Im with BnB, check your BIOS settings. Make sure the drive is being detected. I deal with alot of award BIOS boards, they have an auto detect. Sometimes if the box gets shocked you have to run that to get the board to see the drive again.

Another thing, if you re-loaded Windows on the HD when you stuck it in your parents comp and if your board sees it again, format it. Unless the machines are identical. It may look like everything is ok but Windows will keep both settings from both machines and that can cause weird errors.

I am assuming its Windows, BTW.

And anyone feel free to tell me I am talking out of my ass. I work in a pretty specific field so my experience is predicated to said field.

Good luck, Fiend.

When it starts to boot and you see the ram count up and it's other POST stuff, does it show your drives getting detected? At least the CD-Rom should be seen. If the CD Rom is found and the HD isn't check to see if you have ide device detection set for auto or user or whatever in the BIOS. It's usually one of the first few options. If that's okay check the jumpers on the drive. Just set it to Cable Select or if you put the end of the IDE cable into the drive set it as Master. If you follow me give me an amen. If I lost you beat me within inches of my life and buy a computer from Dell where you get real tech support.

Um if your realy can't detect your disk drives throught the Bios its possible you blow your IDE controler as this would have been the first thing to take any charge comeing down the IDe cable, all the other parts are protected by trips in the PSU but if a high voltage got down the wrong pins
Im not sure how easy it is to get replacement IDE cards and compatability would be a big issue.
PS can you boot with a floppy?
