DirectX 7.0a DirectX 8.0 and windows 95

i recently got the monkey island 4 demo, and it seems to require directx 7.0a (the "a" is important) i only have 7.0
on microsofts site, i found only 8.0
im afraid to install it, because it is said to "changes core components and makes numerous registry changes within your operating system. Microsoft does not support uninstallation."

now, this isnt just fear of change.. my mother and father (God bless them) use the computer for work, and they have files which can not be lost or be out of reach for too long.

should 8.0 cause any problems?

if this dosnt work its a bad thing. negetive thing it be.
