Why can't I get into Chat

I liked the old chat entry - I just typed in my nick and clicked on "enter", and there I was. Why did you all change it?

Now on the new Chat entry page, I click on "enter" a small blank pop-up window appears, along with an error notice, asking if I want to continue with scripts on the page, and after clicking yes, the blank window stays blank and nothing happens. Do I have to download mIRC just to get into chat now, or what?
