Red face Weird Computer Problem

Ok, I've tried everything I can think of, so it's time to get some second opinions.

I'm in Windows95, doing whatever (browsing the net, ICQ), and all of a sudden everything just STOPS. Winamp freezes (even the spectrum analyser), if I have an ICQ "message" blinking on the taskbar, that freezes, can't type anything or move the mouse, sound cuts out, ect. . . then, about 10secs later, it all goes back to normal like nothing happened.

There is no hard-drive activity when it happens, and it only seems to happen when I'm online. I am at a complete loss. . . but I am tempted to chalk it up to Win9x unreliability. But that annoys me, since I keep my system VERY clean. I haven't had a BSOD in over 3 months.

Yuo're problems are common my freind becuase yuo are too lame to run lunix. But even if yuo tride to use lunix yuor stupid Grandma's computar probably would melt and expolode becuase she plaeyd the scratchin lotery to mcuh and couln'd have money to buy a pentuim 14 for yuor gradautoin presant so yuo got a shitty Pentuim 080345e that crashes if yuo use the intarnet.

HAHAHAHA. I wuold haxor yuor computar to fix it but I don't want my AfterFX drivars to be corrupted agian and erase all the nakid pictuers of Jerry's sistar. I had to wait on his roof outside her windoe for 7 hours in the snow to get thoese pictures and then I went Stinko's to scan them but the bastards wanted me to pay moneys for the copies but I said they could keep some copies instaed for payment but the manager got mad but couldn't do anything because there were many guys in suits and old grandma's in the store so he just told be to leave. I pushed Jerry down and told to pay for it and then ran and took his Sony playstatoin to my bedroom. He thinks someone stole it but I have it.

He is almost as dumb as you.

Freelance, I had a similar problem a while back, and tracked it down to a trojan DES5 client on my machine. My advice is to get hold of something like ASpy and have a look at what's being started up when your machine boots up.

If the above checks out fine, do you have DMA enabled on your drives? Have you tried disabling that?

Do what macker said, check out for trojan activty. I know that Macker does not like it, but if you install ZoneAlrm it will tell you if something is trying to access the net and then you will know.

As for Jeff, ignore him, little script kiddie twat by the sound of things.

Talking

Wow! Is that the REAL Jeffk??? Sounds like him. . . but it could be some poser too. . . cool, Jeffk flamed me.

About that trojan, can someone tell me what registry keys I should check? Would it be in HKLM/Software/Microsoft/RunOnce or RunServices? Cause I check those regularly. Oh, and I am also using a firewall (TPFW), but I noticed this problem before I had installed it, and it still happens even with the firewall. But no alerts come up from the firewall when it happens, so I don't think anything is connecting out. . .

Thumbs up

Macker: Wow, Aspy is cool!! Nice app! I like it a lot, very useful. It even cleaned out dead links in my registry. Thanks.

Hmm, I think I'd rather live with the problem than disable DMA. I am using UDMA66, so it'd be missed if it was gone.

I had a very similar problem with a Senix system I have.
This bastard would freeze everything on my system and there was no escape. Even in Linux!
The problem was that the netword card was bad. Real bad.
And to compound the situation the network card was onboard.
The only way to fix it was to disable the device in windows 95.
And purge the evil card by editing addresses from files in the /boot directory under linux, a solution to horid to contemplate.
