In retrospect, I probably should have taken the vanilla icecream. But the chocolate looked far too tempting. Little did I know at the time, it was actually little children all mushed up into a fine icey paste. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well that night, and neither did those kiddies. Well, I didn't stand for such a crime!! NO WAY. I marched back in that store and demamded an explanation. And there is was. Double chocolate icecream. Sitting there, waiting to be ingested. Oh, the taste. Oh the pure orgasmic feeling when you consume the delicious cream. Oh, how I love chocolate icecream.

Is there any way to keep the existing programs I have and install Win2K, without having to use something like a Zip Disk?

Prolly not. Coz Win2k uses NTFS and not Fat I believe. Although I may be worng. I don;t believe there is an upgrade option as such.

The best thing to do would be to partition the drive and back up the installer for the progs you want, install Win2k and then reinstall the progs

WRONG O ROO

Cool and frightening technology all at the same time:

2k can and will install onto a FAT32 or NTFS partition. Not only that, but it can convert a FAT32 partition to NTFS without losing data. But remember, just because it can convert without losing the data doesn't mean that data will work. Usually that just means applications themselves, not really documents, because they're just information, not executables. Anyway, there are a lot of applications that won't run on NT or NTFS, because of NTFS so beware of that.

Comentary/Editorial Sexion:

And for all this stability stuff with 9x/Me, I say it's the user's fault if they can't keep their computer up. Learn a little about the environment, then it's as stable as Linux or whatever. I only BSOD because of my chair to keyboard interface. I understand the limitations of the OS, therefore it stays up.

However, the resources thing really pisses me off.

If my problems with the OS were user-end problems, I could understand, but I seriously doubt these are user problems. It likes to lock up when I open a browser; Outlook Express locks up if I don't let the little web page thing load before I enter my password; WinAmp has locked the system up on a few occassions; I constantly get error messages about various DLL files, and many other stupid reasons for locking up.

It froze three times in 20 minutes last night. I'm getting really tired of it.

My two cents...

Win2k works wonderfully if all the hardware and software you have is FULLY compatible with the OS. Most companies have done a good job of offering downloadable driver upgrades to allow recent Win98 or NT users easy upgrading to Win2k.

I've used Win2k on both NTFS and FAT32 and can't notice ant real difference.

During installation, Win2k will run a system check on all hardware and software and report what is not compatible, or needs to be upgraded.

Win2k is very, very crash proof. There is the Blue Screen of Death, but I have not had that one for a long time, pretty much since I have gotten everything upgraded.

I was lucky to be able to get a copy from a special at Purdue University, $5 for win2k pro. And this was legal. But, it might be better to wait for the homeuser version of Win2k. Although everyone would be able to use Win2k, because the ideas are still the same as in Win98, or course. It's just A HELL OF A LOT NICER!!

That's all.
