how do i get my films onto the internet?

I have made several short films and I wonder how I would go about getting those into a format that I could share on the internet. Does anyone know anything about this?

And if could get them transferred to the right format, could I show them/post them or whatever on the asylum?

Like I say, I know NOTHING about this stuff. I just made the films. I have them on vhs and 3/4" tape.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

First of all, you'll need a tuner/capture card. This has a plug made to fit cable and video plugs,(VCRS, camera, regular cable TV, ect.) Hopefully, the card will have film editing software. Realplayer has a freeware version of their Realproducer software available that you can use to create streaming files to upload to a server. If you can swing it, get Adobe Premiere. It has all the editing doodads you'll need as well as Windows Media, Quicktime, and Realplayer file creators already built in.
