Post Linux install problems

I have both Mandrake 7.2 and Red Hat 7.0, and I can get it to install on other computers, but it won't install on mine. I've tried CD-ROM installs, I've tried boot disks, and just about anything else I can think of, but I just can't get it to install. What's going on?

Uh, Spits, dear . . . This isn't a dual boot problem. This is a "I can't get the God damn OS to install on this one particular machine only" problem.

I was able to install a version of Slackware, but only because I had all the packages on the hard drive, and used a root/boot disk combo.

SP. It sounds to me like a prob with your cd drive. Have you tried taking a drive out of one that worked and putting it in the one that does'nt machine?

Alternatively you could just change the hard drives to the ones that work and then install?

If it was that the CD-ROM wasn't working, then I wouldn't have been able to install any of the games that I have installed, or copied some of the CD's that I have.

not necessarily SP. I have known cd drioves that will not install FreeBSD or any Linux distro, but are fine with Windows and Games on Windows.

I suppose it's possible that the CD-ROM could be a slight bit off kilter, but I'm not so sure that is the problem. Last night tried to install Mandrake off my hard drive, using hd.img, and it wouldn't even do that install.

Okay, I popped a different CD drive in this bitch, and it still won't install. It's not the drive, then. I can get OpenLinux to install off of a CD, but no other distro that I've tried will. What's wrong?
