Post Webpages...

I want to build a webpage...I used to like three years ago and loved spending hours playing with the HTML to get it to do exactly what I wanted it too. So ok, I know my domain name I want to register, but then where's the best place to set it up? And how do I set it up? (I'm not talking HTML, I'm talking hosting and shit)

I'm pretty much clueless on this side, so enlighten me

for registering the domain, i've found godaddy.com to have one of the best setup/maintenance tools

as for hosting, it depends on what kinda space you need, how much bandwidth you'll be using, etc etc.

i'm hosting my new site with vector force - they give me plenty of space and more than enough bandwidth.

Space and Bandwidth? Most likely minimal, it'll be to host my webcam and just a page for me to play with, and practice. I highly doubt anyone really cares all that much about me

I would like to do something bigger, but have no content to introduce, but If I think of something then maybe.

From my experience (with admitedly only two registering services), register.com has a good set-up for domain managment.

IMO, one should stay far, far away from Network Solutions. Besides the mountains of spam, there's endless junk mail, and it's pure hell transfering control of your domain to someone else.

Hosting wise, you can always go with a free host. Portland Communications is a fair host with no pop-ups, banners or idiotic ad frames to mess up your layouts, but (and this is a big sumo wrestler style "but") they're a bit unrelable. You get what you pay for, I suppose.

You do get cgi, SQL access, 10 megs of space with 10 gigs of transfer/month (i think, could be wrong), and unlimited mailbox aliasing.

If you're just looking for a web presence, and reliablity isn't much of an issue, try 'em out. And, hell, if your register with register.com, it's pretty easy to transfer your domain to someone else.

Interesting. My experience, from work, Register.com have been the hardest to transfer domains from. I guess it's a case of YMMV
