Question how do i get rid of....

a bunch of stuff that opens up when I reboot my computer?

I have all these things that load themselves up like norton system monitor and paltalk and other crap that I don't want when I start up, it takes forever for a reboot.

Please, how do I decide what I want to run automatically?

thanks

You'll have to go to the options for each program and disable the option to run the program on startup.

Running 98?

>start>run> then type in "msconfig"

Tab on the far right is called "startup" uncheck anything you dont want to run at startup. Re-boot.

Works for w2k but you need to download the "msconfig" file to your system32 file and ok past the errors.

thanks, i did this and got rid of some crap.

But there still seems to be alot of stuff that I don't know what it is.

I will name a few and see if you know what the heck they are:

scanregistry
irmon
navdefalert
loadpowerprofile
stillimagemonitor
scriptblocking
load=

all of those are checked to run at start up.

thanks very much for your help.

Uncheck everything except "scanregistry". Load power profile is only used if you have power management on. The rest are applications that you probably dont need running in the background. "navdefalert" Im thinking may be anti-virus software but I dont know.

You can always uncheck these things and re-boot and if something dosent run the way you want just re-check the boxes. One of the techs can probably explain what the other applications running are. Sorry, I dont have time to look them up.

stillimagemonitor - this is used by the WDM drivers to capture images from your webcam. If you use webcam32, you can disable this, as it relies on good old VFW to capture the images. If you use some other cam software, you may want to leave it enabled.

irmon - this just monitors your IR port for incoming traffic. Useless unless you have a laptop.

I have no idea what scriptblocking is though.

I suggest also downloading X-Setup. It allows you to tweak the living shit out of your whole computer. You can find it here.
www.xteq.com

one of the things it allows is deleting the entrys on the startup list once you disable them.
