I first heard about linux prolly around five years ago and I thought it was pronounced lie-nux, then later that day learned it was lee-nux and ever since I have had to think about pronoucing it the right way when I say the word, that sucks. Books should really have to always use it in a sentence like "(lee-nux) linux" for any first use in an article, so people who never heard of it arent fucked up by pronouncing the word.
now run, tell the people!
