i think i'm just getting old
i've become quite picky with new music. i haven't been impressed by anyone new in a long time, since system of a down, i believe. is it possible to be this jaded this early? or does music just plain suck now, and i'm the only one that noticed.

The last five years or so have been pretty unimpressive (to me at least) as far as harder music is concerned.
Cibo Matto / Butter08 is one of the few newer acts i've heard that I really liked.
Thankfully, there are decades of other music that I just haven't heard yet, a lot of stuff that's been overlooked.
And there's always jazz...
Maybe it is old age. Food starts to taste stale and rancid, too. Nothing is as good as it was. Except for Andy Griffith. He's still got it, I tell ya!

I've noticed that there is a lot of shit being produced. I think the amount of good stuff is pretty much constant. The sheer quantity of music that they spit out now simply means that increasing percentages of that music is total shit. Worthless. It means you just have to dig deeper to find the worthwhile stuff... and it also means that much of the talent doesn't get heard, while a lot of the garbage does. Put a little more effort into it, listen to some local bands and other bands nobody's heard of.
It's kind of depressing, actually. I gave up watching MTV long ago, since they play for the masses, which all apparently worship the manufactured music, or (c)rap (can't even call it music).
Oh well... just find what you do like and stick with that. And quit bitching about it. If you don't like the music they're making, shut the fuck up and make your own fucking music.

i am making my own music, and i am living vicariously through several prior musical eras, but i look around and see people who insist that Linkin Park is the greatest band ever and after constant pounding of that opinion i have to start to wonder if the problem is with them or me. i can't turn around without running into a sea of slipknot shirts, and i simply can't get into a band who's claim to fame is a man who can yell really loud and a technically profficient drummer (or three, i've heard tell that they just have a bunch of them to cover up a lack of innovation). i simply can't engage anyone around me in conversation about music now because noone listens to anything i do anymore. i'll talk about The Dismemberment Plan and get wierd looks and Papa Roach references. now i know how my parents feel.

Like I said, the masses just eat up all the shit. Even the non-pop musicians generate more shit than good music. I've heard one song by slipknot that was halfway decent, and it would have been better, IMO, if he hadn't gone into a screaming fit.
I honestly haven't heard (of) linkin park or the dismemberment plan, but I do know the "nobody listens to my sort of music" feeling. I've slowly expanded what I actually like, but I avoid listening to the radio most of the time mostly because 99.5% of it sucks ass. Over thanksgiving, Morgana made me watch mtv for about an hour or so, and it reinforced my belief that I hate most music that's out there.
Well.. I take it you like this dismemberment plan.. any songs to recommend?

but of course! go out and get The City, One Too Many Blows To the Head, The Jitters, What Do You Want Me To Say, Spider in the Snow,Tonight We Mean It, Manipulate Me, and (if you feel like it) The Love War.
and while i'm at it, as always, i have to plug superman matt mahaffey's group Self. just go to http://pub31.ezboard.com/fforbidden...topicID=5.topic , i've pretty much covered it all there.
and get some David Garza while you're at it, just for good measure.
