The movie came out yesterday, and I know normally stuff about movies goes up elsewhere but there have been many relevant discussions about what this movie portrays. The basic premiss is that a Czech and his Russian friend come over to America to collect money left with another friend who suddenly disappeared a few years ago while the Czech was in prison. The Russian is obsessed with film and steals a camera to film his trip in America. When they find their friend, they find he spent the money and is living a normal life in NYC as a plumber. He offers the 2 jobs, but the Czech kills him while the Russian films it. The 2 end up becoming interested in the media and a particular case where a kid was temporarily insane, got off, regained his sanity, and is now selling the story for movie and book rights. The pair decide they want to try and film their murder of a celebrity: the most famouns NYPD cop (Deniro), in hopes of pulling the same stunt and making big money off of it.
There is so much more to this movie than simply the story, the whole flick shows how the media creates celebrity in some and can make or break your career no matter who you are and what you do. It's a beautiful piece of film, go watch it if you're interested in the subject.
