Napster Finds a Way
3/15/01 9:07:06 PM - Coonz
Everyone knows that Napster has been undergoing a lawsuit from artists and recording labels saturated in greed. Of course someone was bound to find a way and Catnap has done it!
Catnap, currently in Beta at the moment, will encode files (namely MP3s) from one client to another therefore not allowing Napster to be able to tell what files are being transfer. The encoding software will encode the names of files therefore bypassing the new filter system installed into Napster by the outcome of the Napster lawsuit.
As you all know the user number on Napster has dropped drastically in the past 24 hours due to the new filter system. Now files which are named bands that Napster is no longer allowed to permit users to trade are filtered and not sent. The new Catnap encoding software will code the names to names which don't make sense thus allowing clients to use Napster as they did in the past.
This will basically make it so clients know what's goin' on but Napster will see you're transmitting strangely named files, a pretty cool idea.
In no way does this system violate the new guidelines for operation that Napster must now follow. Hopefully Napster will see this software soon so they aren't forced to close, causing more jobs to go down the toilet.

Have a wonderful day in our one way world
