Post Lateralus (spoilers)

I was sent the full album by a friend. Come, and listen closely.

LATERALUS is FUCKING AWESOME.
It is one of, if not the best album I have ever heard.

It is a work about spiritual renewal through psychedelic drugs, rediscovering the world and the opportunities that arise for us when we free ourselves of the conceptual shackles of pure reason and loaded words that no longer describe experience but meaningless abstract. It is about self-healing and renewal of old relationships, of communication. It is about realizing our own divinity and that of all existence. It is vulnerable and alive. It's also very fucking complex.

*cums*

May 15th, buy it!

I will find you and kill you if this album is not incredible. You are the first review I've read and my friend and I are VERY skeptical with this album.

Anyway, I truly hope there are some faster and heavier tracks than Schism, please tell me that much...???

I've got 'Parabola' Dont think you will be disappointed, Vegas. I've heard about the first 3 minutes of 'Ticks and Leeches'

What Ive heard is not APC. Its Tool. If thats what you are wondering about.

Well, a couple tracks are somewhat disappointing... Ticks and Leeches is a bit juvenile, imo. But the cherry tracks are very good indeed; Parabola and Lateralus are already two of my favourite songs of all-time. I've been listening to this cd non-stop since I got it two days ago and it's incredible. This is a more spiritual side of Tool, but it's still got an amazing amount of energy to it.

What I heard of it reminded me of 'Hush', not a favorite of mine.

I will reserve judgement.

a true test is if there are any tracks that can match up to songs like Sober, Aenima, opiate, pushit, eulogy and stinkfist, if it can then i'll be happy when the album drops through my letterbox tomorrow morning!

It's unlike any Tool you've heard before, aside from a couple tracks. But it is very good.

Tool's originality is one of the few reasons they are a step above the rest in my opinion. I'm a huge fan of everything they have put out to this date, though Schism does have me a little skeptical. The fact of the matter is, Sober was something completely new when it came out on the radio. It was also a change from Opiate, which at that point was finally discovered on the mainstream level. Stinkfist was a new direction for Tool, a different sound once again. Schism didn't really bring much new to the table, the sound isn't a step FROM previous material but a step towards one of their ideas.

So, there's still a few more hours before I buy this thing. Are there tracks that kick ass? Faster stuff, similar to Aenema and Intolerance in speed? And is it once again, a new sound for Tool or is it an extension of ThirdEye?

I got the album early because of my job.

It's a new direction. The packaging is fucking awesome. The CD is brilliant, although be sure to give it some time. If you're a musician it will grab you by the testicles. The time sigs. break up the album nicely, although it will seem monotonous for a few listens.

My advice:

When you buy it, take yourself to a place all by yourself. Somewhere outdoors or away from things. Go for a walk or something. Be a part of something larger while you hear it. Make it an experience and I promise that it will grow on you like tumor sauce.

"Reflection" is a brilliant song.

Kind of...

If you're a radiohead fan, think of the change between Ok Computer and Kid A. Musically, this album is very different from Aenima.

Although remember that Ok Computer was different from the Bends, and Aenima was totally different from Undertow. I think that these changes kicked ass, and I'd be a fool to not follow their shift with an open mind.

I'd argue that this is cutting edge.

If you prefer the indoors, I reccomend a dark room with perhaps a candle or two, and 3-4 grams of psilocybe mushrooms. Bon appetit.

So, not one person was willing to tell me that there ARE kickass parts to Lateralus. I must listen to it some more, one and a half times does not constitute a true opinion of the album, though I was happy with most of the disc. Schism is actually a pretty bad song in comparison to that whole CD. And the throwback to the Opiate days, yeah!!!
