artist: Michael Jones and David Darling
album: Amber
Music for piano and chello. The musical theme follows a rainy afternoon into the evening. It is my favorite album to listen to when I write.
artist: Gustav Holst
album: The Planets
Moving and very dynamic. Holst captures the spirits of the planets and their mythological characters. I'll listen to it in the dark, resting in my easychair.

Orbital - Middle of Nowhere
Plastikman - Sheet One
Jonnie Aluani and his Orchestra - Hawaiian Interlude
The Ventures - Walk Don't Run
Chet Atkins - The Guitar Genius
Whenever I am working on something or just feel like laying down and relaxing and listening to something I will put one of those on.

Theo Angelopopolodopilopolous or something like that: Soundtrack to Ulysses's Gaze. Lots of cello. A cool theme that runs through the whole album. Almost, but not quite, a downer.
Mingus: Pithecanthropus Erectus. A jazz tone poem about the rise and fall of mankind.
or some Wes Montgomery something or other.

Thelonius Monk Quartet - "Monk's Dream"
One of the best albums I have ever heard, and it's sooooooo soothing and relaxing.

strangely enough i find Type O Negative's October Rust very relaxing, its the whole keyboard thing.
Other albums would be The ChillOut Album, does exactly what it says on the box.
Air- Moon Safari, cos it is so dreamy.
Moby-Play, not the all the tracks are chill out but some of them are definitely chill out tunes.

Hmm... Wish I had a Dead Can Dance album.. that would be nice.
Anyway, here's what I've got:
Enya - (pretty much anything, but I usually stick with Paint the sky with stars)
Cranberries - No need to argue
Theatre of Tragedy - Theatre of Tragedy
Emiliana Torrini - Love in the Time of Science
Bjork - (again, anything... most recently Selmasongs)
Mind you, what soothes me is sometimes different from what soothes others.

Possibly maybe.
