Post arent these just the best lyrics ever......

I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them fall away
mildewed and smoldering, fundamental differing,
pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers souls in motion
disintegrating as it goes testing our communication
the light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us so
we cannot see to reach an end crippling our communication.

I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them tumble down
no fault, none to blame it doesn't mean I don't desire to
point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over.
To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication.

The poetry that comes from the squaring off between,
And the circling is worth it.
Finding beauty in the dissonance.

There was a time that the pieces fit, but I watched them fall away.
Mildewed and smoldering, strangled by our coveting
I've done the the math enough to know the dangers of a second guessing
Doomed to crumble unless we grow, and strengthen our communication

cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion

between supposed lovers
between supposed brothers.

And I know the pieces fit.

By Maynard James Keenan

how many other songs have you heard that have the word 'atrophy' in them. there is something very intellectual about TOOL, they are very much a perfectionist band.

To answer your question. No they are not the best lyrics ever. You want an intellectual band? Try The Holy Bible by the Manics. 'Yes' has the best lyrics ever ever.
And 'Ifwhiteamericantoldthetruthforjustonedayitsworldw
ouldfallapart' along with 'walking abortion' come a close second.

Now move along thats all I have to say.

I can't pass this up (for dingle)..

I'M IN LOVE (WITH A DEAD DOG)

When I first met you, I knew I loved you
Now that one + one is two
I don't want to cum inside of you
Now I kiss your lips
Now I mount your hips
Now I read your mind
Your slimey hind- sublime!

I'm feeling the peeling, mind reeling
I race unto the plague
I'll bring you a big coat of butter to slick your dead dick way
I'm in love with a dead dog...

Paw in fist we stalk through the rutabaga garden
We've been to the clinic, we know our love is clean
We walk together, but fill up separately
We share a cheese ball, we just do it all

The butter so bitter, the shitter
Well it gapes vacantly
The higher the litter, the shitter
Has justly righted three...

(the death of pookie)

You begin to bore me, with your breath like rubber
You scream 'don't stop'
I hope you don't pop
I'm in love, with a shove
Meaty glove

piss off, sp00ky, i have the holy bible sitting on my shelf at home, it doesnt get played much any more. the lyrics are somewhat dowdy, and musically the lyrics don't actually fit with the music. you just like them because they are political, or least that is my theory why you like them.

musically speaking TOOL piss on the manics.....

Actually no. I like the Manics because Richie's lyrics helped me through the most harrowing time of my life. I realised from the lyrics that I was not alone in the way I was thinking about the world, people etc.

True the Manics have a political edge, but that is not the crutch of their pull.

ok fair enought there music is quite pessimistic and has a dystopian quality.

i just think that the lyrics of TOOL are more interesting and more intricate, more open to interpretation.

The Maniacs sound pretty interesting now....

What pj probably doesn't realize is that Lateralus sounds a LOT like them playing Rush tunes, musically and lyrically. Tool is the direct derivative of Rush for today's hard rock/metal scene. Until now the lyrical content had been fairly different, but Lateralus brings them right into a near copycat zone. So, we do a little math and find out that....

Frank Zappa has the best lyrics!

"Let's Make The Water Turn Black" (from We're Only In It For The Money, 1968)

Now believe me when I tell you that my song is really true
I want everyone to listen and believe
It's about some little people from a long time ago
And all the things the neighbors didn't know
Early in the morning Daddy Dinky went to work
Selling lamps & chairs to San Ber'dino squares
And I still remember Mama with her apron & her pad
Feeding all the boys at Ed's Cafe!

Whizzing & pasting & pooting through the day
(Ronnie helping Kenny helping burn his poots away!)
And all the while on a shelf in the shed:
KENNY'S LITTLE CREATURES ON DISPLAY!

Ronnie saves his numies on a window in his room
(A marvel to be seen: dysentery green)
While Kenny & his buddies had a game out in the back:
LET'S MAKE THE WATER TURN BLACK

We see them after school in a world of their own
(To some it might seem creepy what they do...)
The neighbors on the right sat & watched them every night
(I bet you'd do the same if they was you)

Whizzing & pasting & pooting through the day
(Ronnie helping Kenny helping burn his poots away!)
And all the while on a shelf in the shed:
KENNY'S LITTLE CREATURES ON DISPLAY!

Ronnie's in the Army now & Kenny's taking pills
Oh! How they yearn to see a bomber burn!
Color flashing, thunder crashing, dynamite machine!
(Wait till the fire turns green...
wait till the fire turns green)
WAIT TILL THE FIRE TURNS GREEN!

when will we concede that there is an absolute significance deficit in the concept of the human being that rape is indigenous to our existence and that we can never and will never be able to pay the debt of blood upon this land burn alive all humankind burn it at the stake burn it as retribution for its blatant defilement of itself burn it for its never ending void of purpose burn it on principle alone

i think this arguement is pretty much stupid, everyone is just going to say the lyrics of their favourite band, its totally opinion based

lightbulb: that song is by a band called assuck, its called unrequited blood. its my favourite band at the moment, you can sit and read the lyrics, but usually you will lose place, on account of the ultra-fast music, and the song will be over before you can get your bearings straight again.

The band have good printed lyrics but I wonder why they print that shit when they don't even use it in their songs. They either A) skip a bunch of words and end the song prematurally, or B) give up on the words mid-song and simply scream their way through the rest of the song, ending it prematurally. Whatever. It's all just crazy-fast hardcore powerviolence shit. If you do download any assuck, i recommend the songs page by page, lithographs, and wartorn.

riven -
here are the lines of the ultimate fabrication
the sickening irony of adhesion to untallied hypocrisy
playing self written, wound licking roles in sob story after sob story
scripts lie shredded, torn, riven.

ok yes ive heard of RUSh they have a drummer called Mike Portnuoy or something like that and ive never really listened to them simply because they have big hair, im not into the big hair thing anymore.

yes im a rabid TOOL fan i wholeheartedly admit it! Im a big fan of thiers because i think their drummer is amazing (and modern drummer magazine agree's with me),i think their singer is unlike any other i heard in recent times, their guitarist creates sounds that are pretty unique and their bassist does something similar. i dont remeber saying that no one had done it before, but now i come to think of their are no other bands around who are like TOOL, if RUSH were the same as TOOL then they would be getting the attention that TOOL is getting at present, but they are not.

TOOL don't get marketed that much, in fact in 1997 on February 27th TOOL played the London astoria, it was their only gig in England, more people came to the gig than they had sold copies of Aenima in the UK. the reason for this is the poor distrubution they had with their previous label. TOOL are not a market frindly band, they release an album on average once every four to five years, the industry standard is one album every two to three years. TOOL refuse to feature in their videos, they don't release singles, they are not radio friendly simply because their songs are too long and Aenima and Undertow featured a high percentage of swear words, they require long attention spans.

more people would have heard of RUSH in the UK than TOOL, and the two bands are (acording to a close frined not a like).

A few things on Rush and Tool.

Tool has one gold album, one platinum album (Lateralus, probably going multi-platinum eventually), and two multi-platinum albums. Rush has nine gold albums, ten platinum albums, and three multi-platinum albums. They have had success for the last 25 years in the mainstream. Tool has been around about eight years in the mainstream.

Rush and Tool do not sound the same. In fact, I never said they did. I said the root of Tool is Rush. Tool's sound has come from what Rush did, which you really should listen to if you like Tool so much because you'd probably love it. Mentioning their hair is pretty lame, that's the way hair was then and hair is even more insane nowadays. Go listen to a few Rush albums. Try "Moving Pictures" if you don't know where to start, or "Chronicles" (greatest hits). Most of their material is great, some even incredible.

As for marketing. Rush is marketed fairly well, almost no need for it because they are a well-known name. Not much has come out from them in the last few years though. Tool did Undertow 2 years after Opiate, and Aenima 3 years after Undertow. Lateralus didn't come out for almost 5 years because the record company sued them, Elektra had failed to pick up their option and wanted to keep them on. In the end Tool got their own label under Elektra. The marketing behind Tool is GENIUS. They did everything the way they wanted to. They had the 4-date tour, now they're touring Australia and Canada while hype builds up for their mini-American tour... which builds hype for the big American tour. "Lateralus" debuted at #1 sold over half a million copies in the USA opening week, not something you do with weak marketing. It also debuted top 10 in a bunch of countries, including #1s in a few of them. "Aenima" debuted at #2 back in 1996, to boot. Lack of marketing? Actually, perfection in marketing.

Once again, go listen to a variety of artists, you'll probably find something you like.

I said to myself that if someone replied to this post today I'd put another reply up. So, here we go.

Lateralus is not a completely original piece of work, nor is Tool in the first place. The root of all this comes from a band of decades ago, not sure if you've heard of them. They called themselves Rush. And good they were.

Rush's music was progressive rock with a harder edge to it. Something that just hadn't been done yet. The band chose a lyrical path unlike many of their rock counterparts: instead of writing love songs and "I wanna rock" time and time again, they wrote of life. Their songs are stories, sometimes it takes a little work to find out what the real meaning of them is but it's not too hard. In the end, these guys have produced many songs that will live forever.

So Tool takes a turn towards writing about life and what do we get? The rabid Tool fan screaming of how great it is.

Singer-songwriters are everywhere, people who tell tales of life and the world around them. Just because one more hard rock act picks up on it doesn't mean it should be commended in such a manner, especially on one of the weakest tracks on an album.

more incredible lyrics. i just pickled up the "everybody go home" lp by a band called devoid of faith. cant really describe their musical sound...its a cross between raw power and monster x, so they have their own niche.

subservient, bow down and suck the head of the individual sameness
we need a martyr who can eternally consume
i have no gods, no masters, except for the ones i create, we are all self enslaved
my necklace of thorns will stand out like branded flesh at a slave auction
devoted to the undaunting acceptance and the ability to laugh at others
when they all dance like marionettes
did you ever see the rope around your own hands
you know i never wish for much
but i wish that rope hung from your neck

beautiful, no?
