ummm......how bored are you?

I know this is taboo and all, but as you know im new to this whole computer stuff, but never the less i tried my hand at a web page.

if you are bored and up to it check it out then flame me, or give me some pointers.
there is art and music wav down loads, you can also learn how to make your own liqueurs.
it isnt all the way done but i figue id get some input. its nothing compaired to some of your stuff, but ive only been on the net for 4 or 5 months and have no puter skills.

looks good... if you want constructive critism though:

the images on the page are just teh big ones made to appear smaller - you still have to download the all the images. I would advise making form thumbnails - making smaller images of the large ones and puting hem on the page which link to being the big ones.

Sound on a web page is normally considered bad... I would suggest offering the wavs to download - like "click here to listen to whatever" instead of imbedding them on the main page.

always good to see someone making a start in web design though *smile*

HELL[ the ones you see do get bigger when you click on them, do you mean make them even smaller and link them?]HELL

I personally like it! Great art. You should see my first attempt at a webpage.. yours is much more well done. It seems everyone else has already given suggestions, so I'll just give a link.

Hell: what aminal was saying is make a smaller copy of each of the images (in photoshop, paint shop pro, etc) and have those images be links to the full size version. that way the small images tend to be extremely small in file size and the page loads a lot quicker. I would say make these at most 1/4 the size of the current ones you have now.

that would actually address the big issue I saw which is the width of the page is too big. typically pages shouldn't exceed 800 pixels across in width (i'd say this page with the images the way they are now is about 1200 or so).

finally, as was stated above, make the background music an option.

other than that, good work for a first page =)

Thank you Musashi. I wasnt aware that changing them in paint shop and changing the size on the page would be any different, but I guess the file would stay the same even if I made it smaller on the page. Thank you for explaining that to me.

And the music option is much better cause you can click on the links and still hear the whole song if you like cause it sends down that box....very cool thank you.

yeah sorry thats what i was trying to say - the file size is important for a web page - make them as small as you can afford and then people can click on the larger ones in size and filesize to see the pictures properly...

the content is great though

Jeez... your page made me look through my archives to find my early attempts at making web pages.. unfortunately, I don't have any still around from when I first started out... my page was rather interesting then, in a pseudogothic, boris/royo/linsner art-posting, kinda way. I've got some archived stuff that dates back to the last few updates of that page.. it looks horrible.. I don't know what the hell I was thinking... from memory, I think some of the earlier stuff looked better than that.. but all in all, I think my web design has greatly improved in the 3-4 years I've been making pages (can't remember exactly how long).

Your page looks much, much better than the stuff I saw in my archives. As a suggestion, back up your page exactly how it is now so you can look back in a while and say "Wow.. my page looked like THAT? I've changed a lot..." Err.. at least, I wish I had.

nothin to be embarassed about...nobody starts out in web design a web god (or goddess in some cases)

there has to be some progression from the basic "here is my stuff, here's some images and some text" to "ooo, lookie, tables & frames" to "ok, now i have somewhat of a handle on this stuff"

the real key is not to give up at the first stage when you see what other people have done...although if i did, i wouldn't be stuck in a job i'm not all that excited about...hrmmm.. *smacks forehead*

Agreed completely, Musashi. There is no reason to be embarassed about your web page. It does take time and practice to get good at web design. I've been at it for a few years.
My earliest stuff was really pathetic. I remember that I had embedded midi music on mine, with one or two images of my own creation, as well as some animated gifs I found on the web. I also kept galleries of pics by Boris, Royo, and Linsner, had a midi archive, and a rather empty page for links. And as I learned more, I altered it, and it actually got worse before it improved, since I played around with tricks and javascript and a really, really funky background. Every once in a while, I backed up and completely redesigned my page to sort of consolidate everything together. My current page is the result of my most recent reworking. You can see what it was before the change at http://home.att.net/~ozolins/ . It should be there until I get around to deleting it, and since that requires connecting via modem, I'm putting it off right now.

Maybe I'll drag one of my old pages from my archives and post it on my site to show off how much I've improved.
