ah, i like this column already.
you sound like my brain going off during an acid trip.
next thing i know, my friends are shaking me, asking whats so damn interesting about the ceiling that has me staring at it for five hours
of course sometimes this makes me such a mute that i cannot talk sometimes, because of the futility of talking. (remember psychadelics) and that the banter is somewhat boring and repetitive
hmmmm, odd i have never put those things into words before
thanks nute
i like it!!!

I liked it. Of course, I like anything I read that makes me think.

Really enjoyable read, Nutrimentia. However, I couldn't agree less with your comment about the teaching of history being devoid of deconstruction. In my experience, history is perhaps the field most "in love" with the idea of deconstruction. I know it's what I and many (most?) of my colleagues do--train students to think critically, reposition, recontextualize, rehistoricize.
My point here is that deconstruction is quite "faddish" in the academy right now, particularly in history circles.

Agoust-
Originally I wrote that all programs teach you to deconstruct to understand the parts, but then i paused and thought about it. It occured to me that history is like journalism. Historians try to understand the events that happened, but I wasn't sure if it was the same type of deconstructionism that plagues some of the other disciplines. I actually thought I was covering my bases, but ended up digging a hole.
Paint> revisionism is a concept used to criticize a position or to justify your (new) point of view. I think it is pretty cool that way. Both sides can use it in entirely different ways. Damn, but language is fun, ain't it?

I've always thought that if you don't understand the 'why' of something, then you don't understand the thing at all, and are prone to forget what you think you know about it.
That said, If there were two words I could permanently remove from my vocabulary, they'd be "why" and "I".
I suspect selflessness is as blissful as ignorance.

Have you read Ayn Rand's Anthem? That was the first book of hers I read. Quite a different perspective on "I" at least. Its pretty short. Check it out if you haven't read it yet.

I was shrooming hard, just sitting on the porch during a huge party, taking it all in, thinking of myself and people and behavior, when all of a sudden a friend sitting next to me turns and said: "No Introspection. That's a Rule!"
I was aghast. I thought introspection was one of the prime activities of psychedelic use. This reminds me I have to take him up on the this sometime.
One of these days I think I will eat a bunch of fungi and type stream of consciousness for you all. Will either be really great or absolutely horrible.

Hey Nutri! I enjoyed the read, too. Take comfort in the fact that, even if you're not "normal" (what the fuck is normal?), at least you're damn sure not alone.
Your essay put a song in my head by Ten Years After that keeps playing over and over. It's called, "I'd Love To Change The World".
*"I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do . . . . "* Amen.
