Paint-
Great column, man. The whole emotional perspective of it all is cool by itself, but the twist at the end is the kicker.
I really liked it because I had a similar experience in a car accident. The truck I was driving lost a wheel and we spun around in the middle of the freeway going 65-70 mph and slammed into the mountainside. This caused the truck to flip completely, bouncing off the roof above the driver's (my) head once before coming to rest on its wheels. I don't know how long in seconds it took to flip, but I was able to analyze the situation and have considerable discourse with my self about the apparent seriousness of the accident. I distinctly remembering thinking "Wow, we must be crashing! But wait, is this is a crash, it is a pretty bad one. There is no way a crash this bad would happen to us?!?!?! But then the roof just caved in my head and I am hanging upside down, so this MUST be a crash, and a pretty big one too....(repeat denial/understand conversation 3 more times)"
Wicked crazy how time slows down like that.
PS: always wear your sealtbelt
