Punch the carny in the face? Have you ever seen a picture of Jyates?
Carnivals suck. Fairs are decent, but carnivals?
A few years back a friend of mine wanted to go to the Moscow, ID, carnival. I didn't have any money (and if I did I wouldn't have spent it on the carnival for sure) but he offered to pay our way. I really wasn't interested, but A-dawg was all gung ho about it so a few of us went.
We are standing in line for the Ripper, a ride wherein you sit in a little car that spins around itself while also rotating around the whole column-style ride. This isn't a very good description for those who don't know this ride, but those who do know what I am talking about. It is also the type of ride that loads one car at a time, kind of like the ferris whell.
Well, as we are standing near the front of the line getting ready to board, so kid in the car above the car currently being emptied hurls his hot dog, cotton candy, and cherry coke lunch RIGHT ON THE CARNY'S HEAD. I mean, it was like that green stuff in "You Can't Do That on Television."
He just walked away, perhaps to get cleaned up but more likely to quit his job. The real kicker was when the next carny showed up, he rotates the ride so the kid who puked 10 minutes ago could get out and then looks to me and Adam as though he expects us to get into the car the kid just exited. No hose down, no Oops! absorbent, nothing but swill on the floor and little chunks of hot dog bun stuck in the protective grating. Whatever.
I have to admit that I don't remember if we ended up riding that ride or not. I know we didn't get in that car, but this episode is really all I remember about the whole trip to the carnival. And I think that this episode pretty much sums up the value of carnivals for me as well.
But at least I didn't get suckered *snicker, snicker* at the game stands!
