Nice post nutrimentia..
I am sickened by the advertising wolrd myself..my biggest pet peves are the new drug company adverts..I am horrified by this, they dont even tell you what their advertising half the time, just say things like, Prilosac, the purple pill, ask your doctor..and all the side effects they list! Oh my....I think that drug companies pushing their prescription drugs needs to be curbed..these are the very companies that are doing the research to suposedly find cures..Yeah, I'm guessing the only cures comin out of these companies are the ones that money can be made on..this is insanity..

And how bout the sexy muffin and food commercials? All the inuendoes are ridiculous and tasteless..

And then theres the over the counter drug commercials..They give the impression that they will cure you, make your cold better, relieve your pains on a daily basis..No where do they go into the damgage these meds cuase if taken regularly..or that a childs cold will go away in 3-5 days without cold meds, 5-10 days with..I get so mad!

Anyway, nice article, thanks..GAZIN

I always got annoyed by prescription drug commercials. The first one I ever started seeing was for Rogaine. Of course, for the first few months of their advertising, they didn't even say what it was for. Hell, they didn't even hint at it. They just said "Ask your doctor if Rogaine is right for you." Of course, the reason they do that, is because of FCC (or somesuch) regulations stating that if they tell you the supposed benefits of the drugs, they also have to tell you the side effects. Notice those long lists in the commercials for prescription drugs? They have to tell you that stuff if they tell you what it is.

Oh well.. Advertising is sick. I try not to watch TV much anymore, but it's hard to totally avoid the advertising industry. I agree with Nute here, just make an effort to be aware of what they're doing and saying.

Oh well. That's life these days, sad to say.

I knew decided when I was 16 not to go into advertising.

I was taking commercial art at a carreer center druing highschool (half a day at reg HS, other half there) and they went through all the ways I could design an ad to get folks to buy the product.

I've always hated suggestive selling. If you've worked in retail you know there are things you are supposed to say/suggest to get the customer to buy more.

I dun like it. no no no!

That's what gets me, PMG, is how so many people CAN do it, and like it! You really should read "Coercion." There is one chapter that details one top salesman's attack of his conscience. Very interesting indeed.

I say boycott advertisers. People have no idea of the power residing in their wallets, if only they would wake up and exercise it.

Nute = soon to be parapalegic (sp?)

Enjoy those arms for the next few months because soon you won't be able to use them for anything but flailing about like a rabid Stephen Hawking. You = gonna die soon.

Careful, goatboy, he might make you guess how much he weighs now. After I missed with guesses of 160 soaking wet and 240, he informed me he is a buff 185. (but he then downgraded that to 175 later in the conversation....) Besides, he fights with baseball bats.

Interesting little picture you have there, Clay. I'm sure Stephen is a worthy target of your ire, if you can catch him. He is pretty nimble in that chair, you know.

btw, did you like my column that I wrote?
