Power - Point:Counterpoint

POINT: well at some point you have to face the reality of life, someone else always has some power over you.

COUNTERPOINT: The way I look at life is this, I see life as a vast emptyness that is waiting to be filled, and all the human race has been able to do it fill it with hate, greed, death, and distruction, I choose not to live my life that way, I disagree with all those things, I choose not to live like that.

This is only a snapshot of an interesting debate we had in #WotA ... what do you think?

I disagree. I think people's minds have been so jaded by negatives that the positives are fogged.

Well, let's see. Someone will always have power over me? Probably very true. We live in an interdependent society, and in that society we must have leadership, which effectively means that you subject part of yourself and your will to the decisions of another.

Life as a vast emptiness? I don't know about that one. There are many facets to everyone's life, and the face we see depends on where we are standing, and the path which has taken us to that place. There is no _one_ answer. I can think of many experiences I've had which are apposite to yours; i.e. love, generosity, life and creativity.

'Human life' doesn't fill the vast emptiness you perceive. Life fills it with every experience and sensation possible; it's just that, as I said, there are many facets...

I feel that power will eventually lead to hypocrisy. We all don't fill our void with hate and anger though. We just react off of what we let control us.

People always want more. So when you give them some element of power they use it. Then they try and gain more. Its just the way things work. In order for us to keep going to need a motivater, just many poeple pick the wrong ones.

These two points don't seem to be conversely aligned with each other, but they do provide interesting tidbits of perspective from whence to initiate a greater dialogue.

I think I agree with both of them, in that someone always has the power to influence you in ways out of your control yet the human species hasn't been able to transcend its short-sighted hate, greed, death, and destruction.
