FPS for me
got into it a bit late started with q2, got good, went into a couple clans average ping was 350
play q3a i love it UT sucks the big one i hate that jumping sidestep thing and it does it all the time, other then that i would prob play it.
my HD is dead =( so i lost my crack of q3
got another HD and i have to partition it and stuff

what ever happened to the server for the asylum??

can't wait to kick your lpb asses

I'm all for an Asylum Q3A server. I'd love to get frag people I know (well recognize anyway). Unfortunately I dont think anyone has the resources to set one up. Shit, I'd settle for an IP we could all hook up at.

I play Counterstrike a lot, and have a love/hate relationship with it. It sucks if you're no good at it, but if you get over the learning curve it's fucking great. That's pretty much all my online gaming. I play lots of other games (games are the main reason why I use Windows rather than Linux, second to the fact that my hardware probly doesn't have proper Linux drivers available and I wouldn't know what the fuck to do with Linux anyway) but my online gaming is mostly CS.

If you guys really want I could probably run a server off of my DSL, but I couldn't leave it on 24/7, I do want to use my computer for other things (like posting).

Online gaming, what kind of player are you?

I'm no expert on online games, but have enjoyed many different ones. Human competition is always more fun than A.I.

When I play, its strictly for my enjoyment. I have no desire to be part of a clan or any semi-organized team.

I am mainly playing Q3A, as its simple shoot everything that moves style of gameplay is a nice release. I am particularly fond of the excessive mod, as it is just wanton destruction. Everyone starts out on the same footing, and you dont have to worry too much about the guy camping with the BFG.

Speaking of camping, whats your take on it? I personally dont mind them, as it gives me great satisfaction to frag them out of their little hole.

I always play fair, I am on DSL so I dont beat up on the HPB's. I dont care much for those sore losers who would rather bitch about someone better than they are, then put in the time to improve their skills. There is always going to be someone better than you.

I never saw the fun of having a cheat running, where is the fun in that. If you cant enjoy getting fragged in a hard fought battle, you are taking the game too seriously.

Anyway, those are some of my views, you have any you'd like to share?

I've been playing fps since wolfenstein. I became addicted to them. I started playing online with quake when i got to college. Then i soon found Team Fortress and became addicted to that and played it for about two to three years. I was a member of several clans. The main reason i got into it so much was that the people i was living with were addicted to it too, so it was more like an activity for all of us. that and looking for porn.

then finally technology moved on and TF games started to become less frequent, and the computer i was using died (it was a P133 laptop, how i managed to play on it i don't know, I didn't even have a mouse for a while with it) Then i got my new computer last christmas(PIII600 124megs bla bla bla) and i played a little quake on it but it just seemed like a sin to be playin it on my new computer, i felt the same way about halflife and the games off that engine (TFC and Counter-Strike, i did play a little of those, but they also started fucking up my comp so i tossed them) Then I got Unreal Tournament and that's been keeping me going, but the online part of it started boring me so i started using lots of mods and mutators and maps, so no one wanted to play at my server (that and that i named it Unprotected Anal Sex) Over the summer I became addicted to Diablo 2 and played that alot online. And the past few days i've been playing the demo of RUNE, which is a very fun game. and i'm probably gonna get the full version soon.

anywas, camping is annoying but it is part of the game, same thing with spamming. The most annoying thing i find is just people who are better than me. That really pisses me off, but then i just try and get better at it. but there are always people who are better, so i just have to keep playing.

maybe i'll give q3 a try online, i only have a burnt copy of the game and no cd key, but it should be easy enough to get a cd key generator. I just wasn't really impressed by it and i liked UT better.

hmmm .. I would say that I'm mainly a FPS player. I started my addiction with Doom and Heritic, became absorbed with quake one and two, obsessed with quake three and UT, and lost forever with Counter Strike. every time I get even a ittle bored, I find a new game or mod that sucks me back in for another month or so of sleepless nights of online fragging.
I will however play any game online at any time. I've even played AOL paintball from time to time. oh the horror.
best games based on,
speed and action: Q3 and UT
skill and realism: CStrike and Rouge Spear
fun and guts: Alien vs. Preditor

camping and sniping you ask? there's nothing better than finding a good camp and racking up the frags .. except for maybe rooting someone out of a good camp before they rack up the frags.

and cheating is always bad, but if someone is cheating, you're automatically better than them ..a minor silver lineing to think about as you log off a cheat server to look for a real game.

I play half life it has tons of mods and even more maps.tfc is good too.As for cheaters i love when they kill mr 20 times in a row,cause the one time you kill them they cry and scream bullshit for a half hour.I tried to play Q3 but my modem sucks ass.

I was a pretty decent engineer in Tribes, which while a FPS, it's pretty damned different then any of those you're talking about. Tribes 2 is out in a month and a half, just enough time to make enough money to upgrade my box.

As soon as I finish upgrading my box and get a cable modem, I'm setting my box up as a tribes server, if any of you play tribes...? I spent all Summer with it like that, and my clan played some there. Anyways, the question was if any of you play tribes?

I played tribes for a little bit when it came out. It was pretty fun. If i remember correctly it was mainly capture the flag type things or was there DM on it too?
The little ships you could fly around with all your buddies were pretty cool, and i liked how you could choose your weapons and armor.


I would imagine it would be pretty cheap nowadays(if you can find it), and since it is an older game it would be more likely to work on peoples computers. I think it was playable on a PII200 with 64 megs ram, with no graphics accelerator.

I was in a Quake2 clan called NATTAS. We kicked much ass in Quake2 Instabig (railgun only). We were ranked number one in the CLQ (Champions League for Quake)http://www.theclq.com for several months in a row. (horn tooting over)
The Dude used to frag up a storm.
