ok, i want to apologize in advance for posting this because if you get addicted to this game you will spend you're days refreshing your computer screen.

Planetarion http://www.planetarion.com is starting a new round this Wednesday. This game is similar to whorehouse in that its free and browser based, but the similarities end there. It is much more complex and requires more dedication than logging in for 5 minutes every day and using your turns. There is also a learning curve, but once you've figured it out it is as addictive as crack.

Heres the lowdown, you sign up and you get a planet. You do not get 'turns' like you do in whorehouse, the game runs 'ticks'. A tick is kindof like a turn, but a tick happens once an hour, you cant control when it happens. A tick happens whether you're logged in or not, and at the same time for everyone. You build your planet up by researching technology, construction facilities, building a military etc. All of this requires resources and time. Building a basic mine, for example, takes 8 ticks (8 hours) while researching a jumpgate takes 72 ticks (3 real time days). Resources are gained by mining asteroids. Asteroids are gained by attacking other planets.

The key to this game is having people to back you up, im in an alliance of nearly 70 people (old friends from UO) but if we can get a few people together for an ASYLUM alliance im sure we can ally.

I started playing PA when it was in Beta some time last year, I got realy into it, my sector had their own webpage, irc chat and mailing list. I used to wakeup at 4 in the morning to check i wasnt being attacked - the game started to rule my life and it will yours too. I only managed to quit because i was attacked mercilasly after the reset by the quake alliance.

goat, first thing you want to do is start construction on a mining center, start research on energy patterns, and initiat a crystal asteroid.

Yeah, got my 2nd, a Crystal.

You're right, definatly should have been my first choice.

We should be making an early attack in about 18 hours. I just need that fucking Crystal Extraction now!

Gonna launch a 3rd Asteroid scan in a couple of hours.

I'm lucky, I'll get a full nights sleep tonight. Nothing to do till tomorrow!

P.S. What is a Multi, everyone bitches about it in the forum, but no-one explains?

If I post my coords, am I going to get raided? My Galazy seems pretty loose, there's an asshole in it attacking Allied galaxies, everyone in it is pretty small, and most don't seem to care much about banding together for defense. Just content to dick around. *sigh* I'm having fun, but since I only am online at work, I get to build like one thing a day. lol, def getting stunted. My galaxy is on the fringe of initiating a civil war in the cluster. Kind of Depressing.

I have one metal asteroid, I just ordered 3 Asteroid Scan Packs. Working on A Crystal Somethign facility, and Researching PDS something. Way I heard it was not to build D until you have enough Resources saved to build something substantial, and let them take a few roids now and then. Any thoughts?

you need to build wave amps to have any sort of success scanning for roids

also your galaxy sucks

this game is tough if you get stuck in a crappy galaxy because thats where most of your defense comes from...

Well, I play just about every sort of Strategy game extremely defensively anyways, so it looks like this isn't going to be any different. Yea, my Galaxy Sucks, noone listens to the GC, there are three pricks in it that are posting worthless shit on the Politics Board, just spamming it with "WE"RRREEEEE GPOOOOOINGGGGGN TOOOOO DIIIEIEIIEIEIEEE!" and shit like that. Might be a couple guys worth salvaging in there.

Well, I have two Wave Amplifiers now, and I just scanned for Asteroids...negative. I have three more amps coming out by tomorrow and then I get to try again. bleh, wasted 6000 crystal. Depressing. I hit Asteroid scan and it used all three Asteroid Scan Packs. oops. Any good sites for strategy besides the forums and the regular website?

the planetarion forums suck, its all brits who think theyre l33t cuz theyve been playing for 2 years and you probably wont get much help there. the manual is chock full of info and it is probably a good idea to read the whole thing if you have time.

as far as other sites searching for planetarion on yahoo brings up a couple hundred matches but ive never checked any of them out...

Also I have a spare account (i know, shame on me) - i made 2 just in case i got stuck in a lame galaxy with the first one. Anyway, it got a fair amout of research and construction done, not to mention over a million metal and crytsal stockpiled and the galaxy members seem ok. Im willing to part with it because im happy with my current planet (and score :P) let me know if you want it (its MrPeabody of planet Meatball i think)

Kind offer Dingle, but I'll stick it out in my own galaxy. As I believe I've said, I'm mostly a defensive player anyways, except for roiding, I doubt I'll get out much. yay, pmg is in too. lol. Did you send me a union invite for Whorehouse?

Hmmm, I'll look up Planetarion on Google and see what i can find. Someone mentioned an Asylum alliance, anyone end up following through? Just got my second asteroid, go me. lol
