The Car Thread.

Watcha workin on?
Is it ever gonna get done? Do you care if it never gets done?
Tell us about the one that got away.

I have messing with an '84 corvette, half-heartedly trying to get it ready to sell. Just stuff like working a/c (all the time) and a few scratches and nicks. The sad part is, if I finish it, I'll have to sell it. I just keep telling my wife it's almost done. It's not taking food out of my kids mouth, I seem to hazily remember promising to sell it if I bought another car. If i keep it in the garage long enough, I'm hoping she will forget it exists.

I really, really hate selling a car I've spent a lot of time working on. I just want a big storage area and a few zillion dollars. Is that too much to ask?

I have other projects too, but I'll let you guys roll out some stories first, if ya wanna.

Welcome to dialup death!

The engine is pretty much all that I want it to be - can't make it faster without doing the dirty on reliability and having to spend 9 months out of every 12 tuning it and replacing parts that have broken due to stress.
So now, the mission is to restore it as much as possible. Well, not so much restore as "clean up". And install a cup holder. Lord I need a cup holder.

First, I need money, of course.

And it's currently being fixed.

Man, the Bandit plate was BAN ONE (Georgia plates)

I thought everyone knew that.

67 Dodge Polara, 2nd owner, 383, auto. It was originally that pale yellow color, but the guy that owned it painted it red at some point. It is going to need paint soon and I don't know what I will end up doing with it.

46 Ford Deluxe (I should scan a better photo. Flathead v8 with Lincoln floor shift, aluminum heads, aluminum intake with tri-power, headers, real side pipes, dummy spots, fender skirts, flamed and striped with custom interior and custom trunk upholstery. It was all done in the 50s and needs some cleaning up, plus a clutch.

From whence to where? I can't give you a special rate, I can just make sure it doesn't get smashed along the way or get shipped in one of the "easy-jettison" positions.

And I thought everyone knew the name of the church where Junior and Carrie were going to get married was the Texarkana Reformed United Evangelical Church of God the Twelve Apostles and Assorted Saints. Strangely, not everyone does.

The same goes for BAN ONE plates.

The good thing about SMOKEY plates is that those with only partial memories of the movie get what it's about and those that don't think it's a burnout reference.

From the States to Holland.

Anything over the 25 years is worth having over here as you are exempt from paying road tax, and old-timer insurance only costs about 50$US a year. A yank tank like that on gas would normally cost up to 1750$US a year in tax and insurance.

I've got this master plan you see, Billyman finds the cars, (where is he by the way?), makes sure they're not lemons, you ship 'em, and I drive 'em. RW will finance the whole scheme.

America to holland will set you back about $1500 US. That's for a standard 20' general purpose container - a Kartainer would cost you extra. Standard special equipment fee is about a further $1250 US. There may be a cost added to you for repositioning the equipment to where you want it as it's rare, but that's unlikely in America. You should also have some money put aside in case of extra customs fees etc. You'll probably also want shipping insurance and so forth. In the end, it's quite expensive. Should only take a few weeks in transit though.

(note: I'm not entirely sure what shippers charge for pack/unpack of containers these days)

*theMAC feels right at hiome in a car thread*

aaaaahhhhhh......

I was talking this morning with a good bud of mine about putting a mustangII rack&pinion in his '70 Ford F150.

See the bosses son got a '67 fastback that he just sent to the shop for body work......major body work.

But I convinced him to buy a sandblaster and strip it first.
So now i have a snadblaster.....

My old truck need some paint...hehehehe....sounds like late winter project.

Other than that I have to put a 3 core radiator in the truck...why? because I have one

Damn. I'm not much of a ford guy, but that 46 looks damn cool. I'd drive around, just to see and be seen. And MAC, you gots to keeps your wits about you with the sandblaster. I have one, and once you start in on small parts, you just vant stop, it's all so clean and good. I ended up sandblasting pretty much anything i looked at. Doing brakes? take off the spindles and blast em! inner fenders on the old firebird? take em off and blast em. I could have sold beach passes to the garage.
Snrub, what year is the poncho?

Dingle, my best friend and pal, know anything about clutches in postwar Fords?

Actually I used to work for a law firm and noticed that the lawyers all get the same thing. Everyone that remotely knows them expects them to be available for traffic court.

Then I started posting in it and everyone adored me so much that they gave me a forum of my own.

That's what they said.

Hmmm.

I have yet to purchase a car I can call a keeper. Cars bore me too much to keep just one. Then when they break down I lose interest quickly and call the quick cash guys.
Yes. I am a pathetic Mechanically inclined Ex Mechanic that now works with r.....nice guys and say that my mechanic skills are just a hobby but it's lately has become a chore to even change the fucking oil anymore.
Maybe I'm getting old but driving is beating wrenching lately.
I need a ton of cash and a rust free shell.
