how do you clean this up?

it took weeks to recover and identify 150 or so people in the oklahoma city bombing.

now we have two HUGE piles of rubble with estimated minimum 10,000 bodies in it, and could be as high as 20,000 or more.

what a mess, i dont see how itd be possible to sift through billions of tons of rubble, recover, and identify that many people. on the other hand, it wouldnt be right to bulldoze it all into a hole in the ground either.

There will be repercussions for many months to come. The holes in the ground in NY and DC will be a constant reminder for a very long time.

I was kind of thinkking along the lines that if I were a terrorist the best time to attack a country is when its cleaning up from the last attack.

I really hope they re-build the trade centers.

If I've learned anything about Americans in my lifetime, it's that they don't bow to bullies, and re-building is an act of defiance in the face of terrorism.

the US should tell the world to ally and cooperate fully or die.

From what I heard, the World Trade center is (or was) comprised of 50,000 tons of steel, 925,000 cubic yards of concrete (that's 102,778 truck loads for those who care). Not to mention all of the equipment, office supplies, lumber, etc. I have a feeling that the clean-up will take months.

Of course, the clean-up will be slowed considerably under the grim hope that maybe there are still people alive under all the debris.

NYC will definitely be closed for a while.

the thing is, they cant just plow it. even if there were no hope of survivors (i dont see how, anyone who survived the fall would be crushed by the floors above them) you cant just plow up and tear apart bodies... theyll have to do it piece by piece id guess.

It will take weeks mabey more, and my apologies if this seems rude. But it is warm out there and 1000's of dead loved ones + heat + weeks= don't be down wind of NYC for a while..
Unless you have no sense of smell.
But some may say that thats how it usually smells, just more urine and less soot.
My condolences to anyone whom lost family and friends. A older friend of my mother had a son who worked in DC. She was frantic that he was dead, he finaly got in touch about an hour ago that he only had minor injuried. She had to wait all day, not knowing if he was fine.

Sorry bout the Dbl post but...

They said that there was absetose in the air from the fallen building and all those people breathed it. Does anyone know how long you have to be exposed to it to get cancer. I'm wandering what they are going to do with all the unidentified dead. Think about it, some people don't keep in touch with family or don't have any friends or family, so how will they know who they are? Also, what about the unrecognizable bodies? They should make a large grave with all of the unknown in it. I think that it was done for Pearl Harbor victims that were not identified if memory serves me right. It might have been for a diff. war. But that would be a nice monument along with a monument with the names of the known dead, which I am sure they will do.

Generally speaking, exposure of years is usually required to get asbestosis (scarring of the lung) or cancer. Asbestos is a mineral, and if the fibers are breathed, they can become lodged in the lung tissue. Certain types of asbestos do not have the jagged edges and have not been proven to cause asbestos related lung disease. Seeing as how the building was built in the 1970's it probably does not have much asbestos in it.
