Post Cafepress.. heard of it? Used it?

A while back my friends at chaotic-corp.com and louipimps.com used this company cafepress.com to make and sell t-shirts/mugs/mousepads, etc. I looked into the site and designed a shirt for my band. But I haven't ever ordered a shirt and I developed a theory about the site. It seems to me that anyone who designs a shirt will order one and therefore cafepress is guaranteed an order for every user. Not a bad way to make money. My concern is that the shirts are crap, and if they are I do not want to sell them to the people that like my band. Has anyone used this company and are the shirts crap?

Also feel free to critique my design. Is this a cool band shirt or no?

The second is better.

Most printing companies do their job well enough to stay in business. See how long theyve been running online and before that. If its over a year then its worth it.

I like the back better too DM. Very Hint.
If you ever get them made up, I'll trade you an oh so stylish Sydney Olympics cap for one.

Well they only print on white t-shirts because they cannot print on black. That leads me to believe they use some crap like those iron-ons you can print out rather than silk screening or some real printing process.

Hello DevilMoon, my sweets.

Yes it is a cool band shirt.
I like both front & back. Though I might myself put some orange/red on the back too.

It doesn't look like they would or could do silkscreen to me. White t-shirts only is feeble.

But, maybe you could offer them on-line like that. If it's free to you, it can't hurt anything, right?

But get real ones printed up too.

The front and back designs are actually advertising two different songs, so maybe I will change the shirt. The front was just a scan I made of a skull I doodled and then I drew some flames and scanned those and put it together.

Anyway, the way this place works is that Cafepress sets a price, I forget what it is on t-shirts but I think it's $11 or something. At that level you make nothing, but you can raise the price to whatever you want, and make the difference. I set it to make $5/shirt, cause if we could sell 100 I could go get a good batch of CDs made and get something going with that. Maybe I will order one and see how it looks.

I also just got the info on how to get your band or label's CD sold through CDnow.com, so that is my next project.

I saw this site on SP this morning. I was struck with an idea then and now again when I see it here, too.
we could have a standard asylum t-shirt. I tossed this image together in about 5 seconds. would anyone buy this on a black t-shirt?

I also neg'ed it to work on a whit shirt (or mug) but it doesn't look so good.

if anyone wants this on a T, I'll set up a store, but in fairness to the people who actually do work on this site I waited so they could set up a store and get the profits.

MB, that's pretty cool, I'd buy that.

for an example of a complete store go here:
www.cafepress.com/pottymouth

that's what it looks like, the asylum could set one up, but again... I don't know the quality of the merchandise.

ever been to the mall and seen those kiosks that sell mugs with a kids photo on them? same idea only with a high res. graphic instead of a blurry digital cameras shot. keep it simple and it should look pretty good. (this is just a guess of course)

avoid this. I've seen the result. the picture is put on a flimsy sheet of fabric then adhered to a pad. the edges will fray and the image will warp before you even get it home.

If I may respond to that.
We are setting up a "store" but you need to understand what it will be about.
The purpose of the store/gallery will be to promote items put forth by the members basically. We will have a few items in there that will be presented by the site but primarily it is for the members. The main page will be up very shortly and the full explanation will be posted.
Basically you, for example, can offer your shirt through the store. We will help you if you need it in areas like getting it printed shipping, how to market, etc.
The site will tack a little on the top for admin and any other costs but most of the profit goes to you.
Sound good?

Be patient, it is all coming together.
