Mail order bride/groom?
Is there a way to officially and legally marry someone thru the mail?
An arguement that has spawned between a friend and I.... We think there has to be a way....?

You need blood tests and birth certificates to get married in the US. I assume to marry a foriegn national you need to fill out some emmigration forms.
I don't see how you could legally get married without both parties physically being in the US.

all you need to get married is a form of identification and the money. i don't know how they would do that via the mail, since in order to get buy your certificate, you both have to stand in front of a notary and sign for it.

AHEM. Bullshit, maybe in your state, not mine pal, all you need here is two state id's stating that you are over 18.

Ok, as in my buddy Mike's situation, he's a Canadian, from Edmonton. His best friend (a woman) lives in the States, in Florida. Neither have dual citizenship, but both want it. So, they had this idea that the next time she comes up to visit him, he'd take her to City Hall in Edmonton and get married, thereby making them both citizens of the other country. Then later, they'd get a quickie uncontested divorce, and they'd both retain their status.
I say he's on crack, but he seems to figure it's entirely plausable.
What do you think?

And how many of your potential brides fell at this last hurdle Mr. Mordecai? Eh? Hmm? Eh?

She just wants to be a Canadian? Is it that hard to just become a citizen?

Immigration laws are really tough on citizenship through marriage. You have to prove that an ongoing relationship was occurring (through love letters, postmarked and such), and stay married for several years at least. At least that's how it is in the US...may be different in Canada. Dual citizenship is a bitch on taxes...they may wish to reconsider.

I thought that the US does not recognize dual citizenship.

Presumably not if the countries have a reciprocal tax agreement (like the UK and the US do)?
EDIT: You'd have to be living in one of the countries though.

it would work... i was actually gonna do this back when i was 18... the only thing that was stopping me was not being able to get a visa (long story)
once i had my green card or citizinship i was gonna rake in the dollar$

I haven't dated anyone under 21 since I turned 21, I just realized the other day, it seems a bit strange since most of my friends seem to like 18-19 year old girls.
