My reading of it suggests that it had just left Tel Aviv, not heading towards it. This leads me to think that it wasn't a bomb, as Tel Aviv has pretty damn good security.

Don't let your assumptions get out of control with that unexplained explosion bit either there, girlie. Remember that flight from New York that blew up for now reason: nothing to indicate terrorism in that one.

Isreal has the most strict security on air travel anywhere in the world. However they only have a small fleet of aircraft. I saw a show on Discovery/BBC that said that in order to implement security like that here it would cost hundreds of billions of dollars. not feasible at all.
