What You Did'nt Miss
War against Terror Day 94 (all channels)
Phil Airtime (in studio): .... and as air strikes continue over Afghanistan, we go live to our reporter Philippa Screen, who is with the North Alliance forces only 30 kilometeres from Kabul.
(Cut to black screen with occassional yellow flash in background)
Philippa Screen (dressed in anorak and headscarf): Yes, hullo Phil. I'm with the Northern Alliance, only 30 kilometeres from Kabul, where the coalition bombardment is no in its 94th day. The night sky is lit up with yellow flashes, which I am told are defintely some sort of bombs or shells, probably dropped by US, or possibily British, planes, flying in the very sky you can see above me here.
Airtime: These planes, Philippa - you say that they awere possible American or British. Could you elaborate on that?
Screen: Well, yes Phil. The general view here on the ground, as we watch the night sky lit up with yellow flashes, is that these are defintel;y likely to be American aircraft, although we are not yet in a position from where we are to give definitive answer to that question.
Phil: And where exactly are you, Philippa?
Philippa: Well, ,Phil, I'm approxiamtely 30 kilometeres from the Afghan capital Kabul, where as you can see from the flashes on the .....
Phil: Thank you, Philippa. We'll come back to you in a couple of minutes for an update on that fast-changing situation. But now, we have in the studi John Nerdibloke, the editor of Jane's Fighting Bombs, who is a defence expert.
(shot of man in beard and glasses looking very excited)
Nerdibloke: It's pretty clear from watching your pictures there that what we are seeing is a high-level attack on Kabul probably by a combination of B2 stealth strike aircraft with some of the latest laser-guided Tomacruise missiles.
Phil: Thanks John, but I'm afraid we'll have to leave it there, beacuse we're now going over live to Washington where Secretary fo State Donald Rumpole is holding a live press conference in the Pentagon.
(Cut to earnest American in glasses in front of a huge stars and stripes flag)
Rumcove: I'm glad to be able to report that following tonight's attack on Kabul, all our cruise missiles returned home safely.
American Journalist: Mr Secretary, are you in a posiiton to give us any detail on the identity of thae targets in tonight's mission, and what was the percentage success rate?
Rumpsteak: Well, I have to tell you Jack, that that information is classified. Indeed, it is so secret that we could not even tell the pilots what they were aiming at. But I can tell you that there was no collateral damage whatever, except a bit.
Phil: That was Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld live from Washington. And now we've just managed to get through on the videophone to Paddy Trout, who's in Dopeja, the capital of Kanhabistan, which borders Afghanistan on the north west. Paddy, what is the mood where you are tonight?
Paddy Trout (speaking over crackly videophone: Well Phil, its not entirely easy to gauge the situation here in Kanhabistan. I've been trying to find a television set to find out what's going on, but they don't seem to have any tv sets in this country.
Phil: Thank you, Paddy. And now for an update on that bombardment of Kabul we showed you earlier. We're going back to our reporter Philippa Screen in Northern Afghanistan. who is in the front line only 30 kilometres from Kabul.
(Cut to Philippa lying asleep on rock, exhausted by strain of having to provide updates every 10 minutes. Distant flashes in sky continue for 94 hours...)
