"For example, an owner of a pornography Web site in Sweden might be prosecuted for sending a racy picture to a friend in Norway if the message happened to travel through a computer in Fairfax, Virginia. In that case, a U.S. prosecutor could try to extradite the sender and prosecute him for breaking Virginia law, using Virginia's standards for obscenity."

It's just going to get worse from here, and then people are going to make ways around going via the US and the US are going to bitch and complain and then do a whole bunch of shit to make the internet, THEIR internet.

It's only a matter of time.

So stock up those hardrives.. e-Porn is comin to a close, heh

either that or a direct peer to peer porn network is going to start up. I mean, if I direct something in Au, like music, to someone else is Au, especially if they are hiring telstra bandwidth, which most companies do, then my shit doesnt go through the u.s.

Fuck them if they want to try and extradite people. Metallica tried to do that as well about napster. and look how many people that got.

Telstra actually own bandwidth? As I understood it they bought it off other people. They certainly do in the UK.

Telstra pretty much had a monopoly on telecommunications here, still do pretty much. 4 billion in profits from this year.

Telstra (being majority government owned) has an almost monopoly on infrastructure in telecommunications. It may not have all the customers, but any new entrants in the market usually have to hire off Telstra for their bandwidth. Even Optus hires infrastructure of Telstra. Therefore they make a profit off almost everyone. See, all the small mobile companies and internet companies get their bandwidth off Telstra, and they only make a profit by taking a risk in putting themselves last on the list of bandwidth, so if a lot is being used, the small telco companies get marginalised, that and tiny profits per customer which can only be made up by massive volume sales. Therefore if you connect to eachother in Au, you will probably be using Telsta equipment, and the shit wouldnt pass through the U.S.
