I did find it funny that Rumsfield was 100% adament he was in the mountains. I wonder why the American fleet is now blockading the Pakistan sea border? Could it be they don't know where he is?

They've been bloackading the sea for several weeks.
As for Omar .... something suspicious is up. Karzai will not directly answer the question whether he will turn over Omar to the US, and about the same time the US rejected the surrender plan, Omar disappears, after having been in negotiations with Karzai.

What? What are you talking about? I watched Rumsfeld going on about how he was 'defintely in the caves' When he was pressed on the issue that the prominent pakistani journalist that last interviewed bin laden said that he gone 'above the snowline' he reiterated that he was in the caves.
Now the search has moved. Was the info wrong?
You say they are getting weaker but I don't understand what argument you are referring too? Are you saying that there is proof out there that they no where he is?
I donlt doubt they are looking for him? All I am saying is that it seems to be that the turth is that they have him pinned down to about a 3000 mile radius or so.
And G, I am aware the ships were there, but it has been reported on both the BBC and Sky in press releases from Downing Street, that the fleet has moved inwards to the prot significantly, well within a mile distance from the harbour and coastline. This all happened today and yesterday. While at the same time we were being told 'hes in the Tora whatever mountain range'

Perhaps there are caves above the snowline?

I should have explained. He was actually referring to the Northern Mountains in the India/Pakistan area. Basically he argued that bin laden had left Afghanistan and was heading South West. By above the snow line he means literally above the snow line. The mountains range and cave network Rumsfled referred too is no more than 14,000 feet high in a valley that is 6-7 miles long.

ok, don't get me wrong here, but what crime would Omar be tried for in the US? Has he actually committed a crime as such? And before anyone says anything about human rights abuses or the like, what I mean is as far as I can tell he has not committed a crime on American soil, so what exactly would the charge be?

You’re either very confused of a liar. Rumsfield has NEVER EVER said he definitely knew where bin Ladin was, he goes through great lengths to stress they don’t know for certain where he is. I am positive you did not see Rumsfield “go on and on” about them knowing for certain where he is.

I watched it live on Sky News yesterday afternoon. Rumsfeld was asked about the bombing in the Tora whatever, he said 'that is where he is'. He was then pressed about the other sources of information on the matter that contradicted this. He repeated 'he is there'.
Whether you believe me or not is up too you. I know what I watched. So unless someone did a bloody good edit job, or it was a doppleganger, it was Rumsfeld and he said it.

*sigh*
Sp00ky, you'd have to show me the reference.
I have watched virtually every Pentagon briefing since 9-11, and never once saw Rumsfeld say that.
In fact, he has gone out of his way to make sure the reporters know he's saying he doesn't know. One press conference in particular I remember: both Rumsfeld and Rear Admiral John Stufflebeem were at the podium. The reporter asks about bin Laden's whereabouts, and Stufflebeem jumps in and talks about us concentrating our search in two particular areas. Rumsfeld, obviously irritated, interrupts, and makes it clear we are looking in those two areas, but those aren't the only places.

The charge would be related to terrorism, probably a conspiracy charge. Easy.

I wish I could. But it was on the TV. I watched it with my own eyes. Like I say, you can believe me if you like. But I saw him say catergorically 'he's there'.

Would it be easy to prove though? I mean conspiracy to commit terrorism? That's a dodgy charge in itself. By definiton it implys that not act of terrorism may actually have been committed. I will be interested to see the witnesses and evidence if it ever gets to court.

Sorry to be breaking up these responses ...
It's the media that is reporting this, not the US government or the allies. The last I heard: bin Laden was sighted on horseback about 36 hours ago, visiting troops near the front. Reliable? I doubt it. The search continues.

The threshhold for that would be lower than terrorism itself. It could include harboring and aiding.

Yeah, I saw that report also U4ba. I hope its wrong but it wouldn't surprise if its correct. I thought Osama wanted to become a martyr? He is a coward, which comes as no surprise either.

Surely retreating from a battle that you can't win isn't cowardice?
He is not a nice man, but I don't see how people like him are cowards. They are arseholes, not cowards.

I don’t know, its seems pretty funny after all his talk about duty of dying for Allah and wanting to fight the Americans face to face on the battle field. I’d say he is a coward if he has suddenly found he would rather live than fight in his Jihad.
Anyway, government sources say they are not putting much into that report and they said they have recent intelligence info that he may be in the mountains. They have always maintained they can’t know for sure though.
