a console vs. pc question
I see that there is a rumor that MS is thinking of buying out Take 2 interactive. Something similar to what they did with Bungie. The strategy with bungie was to snag Halo and make it an exclusive title (at least for the present) for Xbox.
I've always figured that the markets for console games and PC games were vastly different. I mean, i remember when SimCity came out for the SNES and was a total flop. I remember thinking, "it's not a console market game." By the same token, i don't think there was ever a really popular PC version of a Street Fighter type game.
But now Tony Hawk Pro Skater has been a popular PC title, same as Metal Gear Solid, and i see consoles with games like Halo, UT, Rune, Max Payne, etc. I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before games like The Sims or the Civ series pop up on consoles, now that they have storage (memory cards, HD's). The way i see it, consoles and PCs are in competition for the same market.
So back to the original thought: Console makers scoring exclusive titles (Xbox - Halo, PS2 - FFX, MGS2, GameCube - Mario shit) with the intention of selling more hardware. That's a foreign idea in PC land. This brings me to the question: Would exclusive titles sell hardware to YOU?
(I bring this up because i am weak and am considering the purchase of a television and PS2 in order to play MGS2 and GTA3, as well as some sports games.)
