I gave my students extra credit for putting a haiku on their geology 101 lab final. More points awarded if they actually put geology in it. This is what I got:

Oh, Geology
What fun I have in this class
I just hope I pass

My favorite rock
is easy to confuse, yet
Just lick it to know

Elephant farts
Stink up the Sahara
No peanuts for him!

I can't stand rocks now
All I see are rocks, rocks, rocks
But can't get them away

Rocks, I like them much
Deformations, they bore me
This is how life goes

Rocks are fun to see
However, they can't see me
In geology

When you look at rock
and you don't know what it is
You might fail this test

I flew fast to Mars
They said they have quartz sandstone
I told them no way!

Went on a rock trip
Dug fossils with silverware
Ate lunch in the park

Feet underground
Buried in the rock chamber
Death is where I lay
