Cops seize Pee Wee's porn collection

(November 28, 2001) Los Angeles police reportedly searched the Hollywood home of Paul Reubens, aka Pee Wee Herman, on November 16th and carted away dozens of boxes of pornographic videos, photos, magazines and books. They also seized three computers containing what was described as "lewd material." The search was prompted by an informant who told police that Reubens was a kid porn collector.

It's the second porn controversy for the actor who made his name playing a childlike adult from 1986-1991 on his Saturday morning TV show, Pee Wee's Playhouse. That show was canceled in 1991, after Reubens was arrested while masturbating during a showing of Nancy Nurse at an adult theater in Sarasota, Florida. He plead no contest to that charge and was sentenced to 75 hours of community service.

This time around, the charges and consequences could be more serious. According to a story scheduled for publication in the National Enquirer next week, police found 20 to 30 Polaroid snapshots of what appeared to be underage boys masturbating.

Reubens, who most recently appeared in Blow and hosted the NBC game show You Don't Know Jack, was not present during the search and no charges have yet been filed against him. A spokesman for the actor acknowledges that Reubens is a collector of erotic kitsch and memorabilia, but denies there was kid porn at the home. He says the informant who led police to his client may have been financially motivated.

"At the end of the day, my client will be completely vindicated," said the spokesman. "The story that my client has child pornography is false."

I care too. I loved the PeeWee Herman movies, esp. Pee Wee's big adventure. I still think they are hilarious.

I really HOPE he wasn't into kiddie porn and there isn't evidence of it yet.

Yay for America's Puritan background. I really wish that we had privacy laws protecting the accused. An accusation of pedophilia (or lots of other things), even if proven baseless, will ruin anyone's career. I don't know whether PeeWee was looking at Wee Peepees or not, but I really hate that it's all over the frontpage. Just cause someone accused him. Poor guy.
