This is Josh, who I dated when I lived in Abilene, TX. He is now serving 15 years for aggravated escape from the Stephens County jail where he was being held for probation violation. Apparently, and I don't know how this is possible, he crawled out through the food slot in his door (speed freak) and held a plastic spoon to the guard's neck to get his keys. He then released two other prisoners. He was apprehended the next day. I thought he was beautiful, and stupid, but I do miss him a little:

Here's a portion of the inaugural transmission sent from the Arecibo telescope after Oxsan's work there was done. It was sent to galaxy M-31, and a prank reply was sent from some observatory in Maine about 3 weeks later saying, "Attn Earth. Message received. Help is on the way. M-31"

on a side note, I dated one of those beautiful stupid people myself...for about 45 minutes.
Called someone to come rescue me before the date was over...his stupidity was that intolerable.
He thought he was all that too cause he was pretty, but every time he said anything I just stared in disbelief wondering if he was joking.

Honestly, I've dated better lookin guys than Josh, but I cared about him a great deal. I realized that life for him would always be difficult, and he was much more than just a good lookin guy to me. But just the same, I also realized that we'd never be able to really communicate about anything interesting to either one of us. I haven't written him in a couple of years, and I really should. He has almost nobody in this world other than his mother upon whom he can count. I still remember his prisoner number and the address of the TDC unit he's in by heart, and I think I will send him a letter. He was a beautiful, wounded child of a man, and I hope that he can negotiate some sort of happiness in this life, if he hasn't already died in prison. Oh hell, now I'm blue again.

Here is Oxsan at Il Duomo in Milan about the same time. He includes this note:

"On my way to a business meeting I took one small moment for a picture of me in front of the Milan Cathedral called Il Duomo. They started it in the eleventh century and in 1976 when this was taken they were not quite through---and they complained about us taking 17 weeks to install the antenna."

Me, Ciocc*, and Jeff Gentry on the shores of Lake Como in Italy in 1976. The lake was a little foggy:




*Mugtoe note: Ciocc died in his 80s after falling from a mulberry tree that he was climbing in to prune. He was something like 50 ft up in the tree. There is some mention of this in one of the Italian stories on Dad's page: http://spreadeagleranch.com/dad2.htm
