i think athletes get more talented as time goes on. this is why records get broken. with a technical approach to health and training, sports figures today are bigger, faster, and stronger than in the past. seeing tape of old games shows a slower and way less technically-skilled game, which is why players like bobby orr could blow away the average player where today the skill levels aren't so unbalanced. i think an all-star game between the players of '68 and 2001 would be pretty one-sided.

another example could be gretzky's career. when he first started playing he consistently scored 70 goals a season, and the league had to evolve to keep up. over time, as strategy and training got more sophisticated, his advantage was lessened.
now even the best players rarely break the 50-goal mark. this could be seen as a dilution of talent, but i think to deny the althletic skill of players like jagr or forsberg or iginla would be ridiculous.

so, yeah.
