I just wanted to share an email that my AUnt from Argentina wrote to my Family the other day. I know most of you won't be able to understand it because its in Spanish, but i'll do a quick translation that won't be very good, but at least you'll get the drift of what its like for someone to live there now.... If you do know a little Spanish , I suggest you try and read through it and not read the english version. You lose a lot through the translation.

FIrst in spanish...

BUENOS DÍAS 2002 !. Aquí estamos, tratando de despertar , o no despertar
de esta pesadilla que hemos vivido. Tenemos que ajustar todas las tuercas y
aprender a vivir de nuevo, principalmente con la incertidumbre de no saber
que puede pasar en el siguiente minuto. Es el primer año nuevo de nuestra
história que pasamos sin presidente, sin poder decir ¡ feliz año nuevo !
como toda la vida sin que se te atragante en la garganta, realmente nadie
pudo decir esta frase, fue muy diferente a lo que estabamos acostumbrados,
insólito. La conversación obligada e ineludible es la situación, cuesta ver
y agradecer todo lo que tenes por que no sabes cuanto te va a durar,
descontando por supuesto los amores y sentimientos , que esperamos no tengan
fecha de vencimiento. Por fin, el día primero, se reunió nuevamente la
asamblea legislativa, por más de tres aburridísimas horas, para finalmente
elegir el nuevo presidente que ya todos sabíamos quien sería. Ex vice
presidente de Menem, ex gobernador peronista de la prov. de Bs. As. del
gobierno de Menem, ahora peleado con él, actual senador nacional Eduardo
Duhalde, viejo conocido y y muy bien relacionado con el tráfico de drogas.
Si lo escuchan hablar, un padre ejemplar, un hombre probo, un experto que
nos sacará del lío, ¡ que carajo va a hacer ahora, cuando tuvo tantas
oportunidades antes y no hizo nada , o sí, contribuyó a que todo andara cada
vez peor.! Por todo esto, y tantas cosas más no creemos posible que nadie
pueda ir l casamiento de Santiago sé que los chicos van a demorar la
contestación porque tienen la ilusión de poder, pero los veteranos sabemos
que va a ser muy dificil, le diría que no nos cuente. En este momento, tener
un dolar es el bien más preciado de la Argentina. Bueno family, no les
escribo más, será un envío en capítulos , sinó también se van a amargar
ustedes y no vale la pena, por nosotros quédense tranquilos por que estamos
bien, lo mismo Changuly y familia con quien tuvimos un almuerzo todos juntos
para despedir el año. de todas maneras en muy dificil estar bien cuando ves
a tu alrededor, cada vez más cerca tuyo amigos que están muy mal. Besos,

Argentina cant be a happy or secure place to be, right now Kaye. I am thankful for your little bit of human perspective on it.

I was pretty surprised that no one has touched upon this issue. I've seen this happen time and time again.... no one gives a shit unless it’s happening to “America.” Nobody spoke about anything else after the terrorist attacks. Whereever you went, whatever channels you watched… it was present. Many people lost their lives and it was very sad, but people lose their lives and appalling things occur in other countries and its hardly spoken about.

Is Kaye still around? I for one would like to know more about what's happening now in Argentina. From actual people and actual experience.

The news does so much to dehumanize sometimes.
