And so it goes on!
Sir Howard Davies, chairman of the all embracing UK regulator, the Financial Services Authority (FSA), announced that he has 'highlighted the regulation of audit practices as a priority for review in the coming year'. So who will supervise the review?
Few people are better qualified than the FSA's new managing director, appointed last April by the UK Chancellor Gordon Brown. He is John Tiner, who at the time of the appoitment was head of worldwide services at, er, Arthur Andersen, the accountancy firm that acieved such wonders as auditor to Enron.
Sir Howard said as the time of his appointment: 'I am delighted to welcome John Tiner to the FSA. His extensive experience of financial regulation in the UK and overseas will add considerable strength to our top mannagement'
An FSA spokesman told Private Eye: 'Mr Tiner worked in Andersen's financial services division. Enron was dealt with by another division'. So that's all right then.
