I was watching the NAACP Image Awards on Fox last night and I noticed that Nelly Furtado was up for an award. Since these awards are only for black people, and since Nelly is about as black as me, I don't understand why she was there. Can anyone explain?

Nelly Furtado: The music is almost always based around the lyric and melody. I think that almost dictates rhythmically where you want the music to go. I really set out to make a pop record. I write pop songs. But I think it is sprinkled with a lot of counter-culture references. It ranged from rap to hip hop to trip hop, house, drum and bass, and experimental and improv and jazz. So you hear that on the record.

I think the hip hop part of it comes from a lot of the rhythms I'm using and there's a sensibility about it that you hear right away. Obviously the world rhythm theme is pretty strong. Because of my Portuguese heritage, I have an interest in all of the instrumentation that comes from Portugal and Brazil as well. I think that comes through on the record.

But STILL! Being Portuguese doesn't qualify you for a NAACP Image Award.

I never found any problems with that sort of thing.

But about nelly furtado....i think karen was pretty much dead on. It's a bit racist maybe, but it's very true. People of latin decent seem to like to see themselves as more black than white, even if they're hardly closer to being one than the other. It's pretty stupid, really.....but whatever makes them happy, i guess? Kill whitey!!!!!

It's a common misconception that the NAACP has to do with advancing colored people. It's not really about blacks, specifically. It's about ANYONE but whitey. Hispanic, Indian, Native American, black, anyone but whitey, dear god, please advance! Exception Asians, cause, for a minority and all, they look pretty fucking white.

Goddamn white people.

Oh, Baton Rouge is one of the last places in the nation to STILL have a case open about desegregating school. Race is a big issue here... not so much because people openly hate other races, but because they don't want a bunch of ghetto kids getting bussed into their schools and fucking up the education their kids are getting.

Maybe Nelly Furtado could come up with a redistricting plan that would please the Supreme Court.
