This is getting a little ridiculous..

About a week ago, I started losing weight very quickly, for no particular reason.
It started as 10lbs lost in 3 days.
As first I shrugged it off because I figured it was stress or water weight.
But not only has the weight stayed off, but Ive lost an additional 10 lbs in the last 4 days.

That's 20 lbs in a week.

NO ONE loses 20 lbs in a week.

I am also calmer than I was when it first started, so I cant really attribute it to stress anymore.
I had been losing weight fairly steadily for again, no real particular reason, for the past few months... but not like this.

Going to the doctor is NOT an option, as Im poor.

Anyone know what might be attributed to this?
It's starting to worry me.

a little extra info: I feel fine. Im not sleeping much, but I never really have. Im eating normally. Taking vitamins. Not really doing much more than I ever have. The only pain Ive been in is a sharp pain in my left hip, and Im attributing that to overuse. I only feel it when walking quickly(which is most of the time. I rarely walk slow).
I quit smoking 3 weeks ago. I thought I was supposed to GAIN weight when I quit?

The only other thing I can think of is that my Norplant(implanted birth control) wears off sometime within the next year. Ive had this particular implant since Keith was born.
Help? anyone?

Hm, I was thinking that it would be that you quit smoking, but usually you gain weight when that happens... But, I assume, it could possibly go both ways...

Hrm. Tapeworm? That is bizarro. You're probably better off not going to the doctor anyways. They'd probably run a hundred tests and afterwards still have no idea what the problem is...

It could be stress, too. I know you've been hunting for jobs, which definately leads to stress. Usually that can cause weight loss...

Smoking slows down your metabolism; people gain weight be cause they replace food for the cigarettes the use to smoke.
If you’re eating habits stay the same as does your activities, you should lose weight after quitting smoking...as far as I understand it.

goatboy: eat me.

u4b: Like I said, I thought about that, but 20lbs in a week seems awfully excessive. Has this happened to anyone else who has quit?

The average long-term weight gain for quitters is about 5 pounds, and in one study, 23 percent of quitters actually lost weight

I understand that, TBL. But again... 20lbs? one week? That's a LOT of weight to lose in one week.
I can literally FEEL my body getting smaller. Maybe Im just paranoid..

I would go to a doctor, rapid weight loss may not be anything, but it could be caused by any number of things.

Yup Yup..

A friend of mine got it while we were in the Corps.

He did the whole "weight loss" thing like you are doing. Only he ate like a horse. Actually, two horses.

then he started seeing "things" in the toilet when he flushed.

Thats when he went to the doctor.

The only way the doc told him to get rid of it w/out surgery was to eat a can of Copenhagen.

Which he did. And it worked. I'll leave out the details he felt driven to share with me, but it was waaayyy gross.

But I s'pose that is better than an anal probe.

If you keep losing weight, you should get checked out...

Caff, thank you for the links.
I looked at them, but they werent very in depth on the loss thing.
I still stand by the fact that Ive never really been a big eater. Im sure Brad, Luke, or someone who has lived with me can attest to this.
Ive gained weight from being sedentary, but not due to eating. I am still not doing much, but this weight loss(however slow) has been going on since WAY before I quit smoking(since about mid-december). The RAPID weight loss started 2 weeks after I quit smoking.
I didnt know what was causing the slower weight loss before, but didnt worry too much about it. I was *very* thin(my waist was probably about 20 inches) before I had my son. I just assumed that the weight was finally coming off by itself.
I just want to know if it's really possible that 20lbs in one week can be attributed to something as simple as quitting smoking. My gut feeling says no, but I'd LIKE it to be the reason.
