"Wait upon me, Courage" by Oxsan
Wait upon me, Courage.
For I come from far away,
From a land of night and shadows,
Peopled by Demons, Ghosts and Fears,
And worst of all by bad decisions,
By things left undone when I knew,
I should have done them.
It is not the things achieved
That fall short to haunt and flay me.
It is those many things not started,
Not attempted, those tongues unlearned,
Those songs not sung, those oceans going to sky
With no barque of mine afloat to see
The great green hills beyond.
Wait upon me, Courage.
I would yet see those hills,
Though they be not green but sere and brown.
I would speak that lilting tongue they speak,
Though haltingly, and hear the laughter of their young,
Who would not know the miracle that I spoke at all.
Wait! I need thee, Courage.
