the best place in the world.

where would you consider that to be?

and why?

AND... have you been there before (I would imagine yes, but one must always check).

In a tree, on the beach at night, on a roof at night, in a clear creek, in middle of the forest...

Away: The National cathedral in Washington DC is a very groovy place. I could spend all day there... though I would like it alot better if it was empty.

Stonehenge was cool, woulda been cooler of there were no other people there

and localy...

Hocking hills, pactictulary Conkles hollow. Caves are cool.

and one or two pactictular trails at highbanks park.

best experienced alone, of course.

Ayutthaya in Thailand. A very spooky yet beautiful and green place. Many ancient statues which were sacked by the Burmese. Heads are lopped, toppled and crumbled, just lying in bright greenery. I guess there's something about manmade culture and nature there. It's a haunting place, knowing that this capital had been sacked 3 times.I guess too, knowing I was going back down the Chao Praya on the Oriental cruiser, watching some Thai prostitute going down on this American business man, to the delight and shame of the twinset crowd. It was a perfect day.

The San Juan Natl Forest in southwestern Colorado just south of Telluride on the Dolores River. Well, that and anywhere else if Sigmo's there.

anywhere between Dallas and Sweetwater east to west, and Mineral Wells all the way down to Del Rio on the north and south. THAT is God's little half-acre.

Home is always best but away from home I'd vote for the Island of Bali in Indonesia. Not the beach at Bali Hai but the hills at the eastern end of the Island where you can climb up in the hills and on a clear day see the Island of Komodo far away on the horizon and look down on terraced rice paddies and see the jungle all around you. Yes I've been there, several times.

Next choice would be the valley the Italians call La Valtelina which
starts at lake Como and follows the Adda River up toward the Brenner Pass and Austria. There is a little town there called Aprica
which is one of my favorite places in the world. Yup. I've been there many, many times.

That sounds nice.

I would really really really like to see the Red Woods one day, I think it would be the most spiritual experience I have ever had.
I love trees.

Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands. It is a tiny island 10 miles from St John USVI (my second favorite place). It has a population of 100 or so. There a stretches of the most beautiful white sand beaches that you will ever see. There are no roads really to speak of, so its water taxis to wherever you go. Paradise.

I enjoy Death Valley very much. It hasn't been fucked up by too many people like, for example, Yosemite. There are still many ultra-remote places in DV one can go and be quite alone for however long. In fact, I'm going back there in a coupla weeks.

Amen.

Under the tree at the ruined Fort Sewall in Marblehead Massachusetts, overlooking the harbour, on a warm and windy spring morning.

Mmm... Spring is the best season, by far!

Hyuk, hyuk, chortle, tee-hee. Okay, okay. It's the vibes man, the vibes.

I also like Big Bend, again, primarily for the same reasons. It's remote as hell and not fucked up. Plus, as an added bonus, you can cross the Rio Bravo del Norte over near the mouth of Boquillas Canyon and catch a ride on into Boquillas del Carmen. Of course, that gets fucked up, too, during spring break when the drunk college kids arrive and lend credence to "The Dirty American".

Amen.
