and so it was destined...

do you believe in destiny, or fate?

if so, do you believe that no matter what we do, we're destined to follow a certain path? or do you believe that we have the power to change our fate?

if not, why? do you believe that people only believe in fate after something traumatic has happened that has changed their lives?

talk to me.

No quite. I can believe in predestination.. some things that are likely, or even probable, to happen. But I also believe that you can change them with hard word or quick thinking as the case warrents.

the same things will happen whether it is 'destined' or not..

I believe that your life has various "fate" things, but that ultimately we have the power to change any aspect of our life.

I think fate is determined by choices we make for the most part, though I must say there seems to be a touch of something, a hand of sorts that seems to guide some times. Maybe like the other thread posted not too long ago on intuition. Id like to think there is something more, maybe something magical to life and sometimes things happen to make be believe it, but I can’t pretend I understand it and I don’t think it can be proven. As far as these things go I am eager wide-eyed child waiting to be taught something; what that something is, thats unclear.

As long as it's republican propaganda that is. What the next round of propaganda is will be unclear.
At least the wide eyed child attitude of yours explains the naivity and ignorance you display like a mink stole.
*My appologies to the thread. I've been followed by this quippy buitch on the board lately and so I'm returning fire. If you object please tell us both to fuck the hell off.*

You know, if you want to be the "bigger, better man" it's usually best to heed the words of Christ: turn the other cheek.

Fuck, I haven't used "cheek" in so long I actually had to look it up on dictionary.com. That is sad.

I don't believe in fate, and I think the things we think are "magical" are actually pretty normal. Chemical reactions, hormone surges, and our tendency to be ego-centric explain away just about everything. It may seem magical that you happened to meet Mr. Right when he spilled mustard on your shoes... like it was "meant to be." In reality, you got a whiff of some compatible phermones when the asshole dropped his hotdog. He was of comparable social standing and physical stature. Your hormone cycles lined up nicely, and now you're fucking, and he says nice things. Happens to just about everyone sooner or later. It's only magic because it happened to you.

"Magic" is as random as getting hit by a bus - usually happens by accident... but you can contrive it, if you're willing to work.

I am sorry. I will stop because I do have more important tasks at hand and making SP look up "cheek" is the mark of an excessive use of force.

But it's pretty shitty when you're feeling stalked by someone because they don't like yer talk. Grow up phorb.

Yay. I feel the love in here. w00t.

I don't think it really makes a difference since what will happen will happen, but overall it's better to think that I have control. I mean if I just assume that everything I do is destined no matter what, then I don't really have to try to do anything, do I? Overall, I'll live a richer, more fufilled life if I decide to take control and sieze the day instead of waiting for some higher power to do it for me.

I think there have been predictions in the past that have come true.
There are two ways of looking at that:
1. Yes they happened but it was coincidence. If enough time goes by, pretty much everything will eventually happen.

2. Predestination is fact. If any prophecy was, is, or ever will be true, we are predestined.

In practicallity it does not matter. If you lived your life as if predestiny existed, it would be predestined for you to do that.

Can you disprove "fate"? I don't believe you can disprove that when things happen, they were preordained to have happened. Someone said to me, "When your time's up, there's nothing you can do about it", referring to the destruction of the Twin Towers and all those who died. I took offense at that because I don't believe that those people were preordained to die that day ("fate" must imply a sense of "preordination"); i.e., I don't believe they were fated to die. Now, after the fact, someone who believes in "fate" would say, "See, they were fated to die, just as some were fated to live, like those who were sick and couldn't make it in to work that morning", but, again, I don't believe that it was "fate" at all. I believe it was luck. If you believe "luck" and "fate" are the same thing, then, considering the semantics, I might agree; but I don't believe that "fate" and "luck" are the same. I believe they're two different concepts.

nope, but people rarely leave the ruts they make for themselves, henceforth they are quite predictable and HENCEFORTH, it looks like fate.

or something.

my head huts, can someone get me a beer?

BTW I do believe in luck. Cos good unexpected shit is a beautiful thing.

I dont believe or disbelieve in fate.
sometimes things feel like fate.
sometimes they feel like luck.
sometimes things just happen.

I will say for fate's purpose that everytime something bad has ever happened to me, something good has come of it.

I think it depends on what you take away from things.
but fate, to me, is just another word to describe a sense of feeling.

I do think some things are predestined, but not for mystical reasons in 99% of the cases. An example: A guy I know who joined sniper school sat in class on his first day, and the instructor started asking questions and requesting a show of hands: How many of you have blue eyes? How many are right hand dominant/left eye dominant? How many of you have bad memories? And he continued to rattle off these traits. Everyone raised their hand at least three times, many raised their hands more.

I think that our genes will pre-decide for us in many cases, but am not yet willing to give up on free will.
